Small Irish kitchen needs a facelift
Comments (4)I would paint the cupboards using either annie Sloan or little greene paint. Annie sloan paint means no prep work so is quick and easy. LG is expensive but fantastic quality. Personally I would go for grey to update the kitchen. If you can I would remove the architrave/beading at the bottom of the cupboards.I would re-tile with metro tiles which you can get for £15-20 sqm. These shouldn't date and should tie in with whatever you choose when you can get the kitchen re-fitted. If you can remove the remainder of the tiles yourself it will be cheaper than having the tiler to do it. I would redo the floor with vinyl. This is easy to pick up at £10-15 sqm and presumably your floor is hard boarded already as you have Lino so this should be a cheap fix. I would also remove the hanging utensil rail and put up some vintage or industriał artwork to make it more modern. I would just paint the walls white to keep it fresh and easy to maintain as kitchens get dirty....See MoreDormer exterior lacks kerb appeal
Comments (25)Hello egreevy, Okay, yes I see, it's a difficulty but maybe not impossible... Just whether you want to try to find out more about this.. Taking windows out to paint is a bigger job but it may still be possible.. ... So for the immediate.. Paint the front door (just the door) it might give a nice finish to have the side windows white.. Then you have a bit of contrast like your image above.. and add window boxes with lovely foliage or buxus.. it will work with the green you already have... I couldn't see as my screen was dimmed.. I think leaving all the ivy colour you have at present would be really nice.. (hence my suggestion of more green!! Also I wouldn't paint the pebble dash, to me it looks absolutely fine on the house itself.. Maybe the small boundary wall at the front and a bit of the garage.. Also a flat box hedge coming over the top of the boundary wall could be nice too.. It will be lovely and green.. : ) )...See MoreFireplace Help
Comments (5)If you want the look of the fireplace you posted but are scared that the dark grey will flood your room, you could paint just the one panel/side wall with the grey, paint the fireplace frame white, and then paint the rest of the room a more light neutral colour. It will also create a more contemporary look and create more focus to your fireplace. Alternatively you may feel more safe to paint the fireplace frame a neutral colour to match the neutral walls. When you are ready to replace the fireplace, I would suggest a bio ethanol burner as a simple solution with minimal DIY work and an option of different styles. Good luck, and please feel free to visit our profile if you're in need of more fireplace inspiration!...See MoreNorthfacing red brick needs curb appeal suggestions truly welcome
Comments (8)Your house is very attractive but a little TLC is required. If possible depending on budget limitations, I would do the following to soften the edges and add a manicured, polished yet homely feeling to the house: Area needing attention: Front door and surrounds Issue: Lack of a focal point, has no presence and appears to recess into the house • Remove all potted plants from outside the front door • Remove the seat from under the main window • Rent/borrow a water power washer to clear away the moss/weeds • Paint the front door (if wood) a dolphin grey colour and add a door wreath (radiates warmth) • Purchase 2 potted Bay trees (Laurus Nobilis) to be placed either side of the newly painted front door to frame the doorway • Put up a postbox on the wall to the right of the front door • Add 2 external candle lanterns to enhance the ambience for house viewings...See Moredianahelena
