Our new animal hospital

I recently purchased an animal hospital and I want to update the waiting room. It's currently all neutrals with no color and I'd like add some color etc. I'm unable to change the floor or the counter tops right now but everything else will be changed. I need some suggestions for wall colors that will update the look.

Use the tile to help you choose a color for the wall. I would go with a light orangish color as it's very warm and inviting. I painted my bathrooms this color, and am very happy with how much the color enhanced the feel of the room:

Another easy thing you can do is put up bulletin boards in the waiting room for pictures of your patients--dogs and cats of course as people love having their pet's picture up. It's also great advertising to post thank-you notes for everyone to see.

Perhaps something in a gray tone from the floor tiles.

Have you considered some wood hung horizontally on the partition wall? No matter what shade of paint you pick will be hard to keep paw print free.

Mary, I am very glad to hear from you. I think of you often. It hurt me terribly when that unthoughtful person said what she said. I can only imagine how it must have hurt you. I would love to see how you have decorated for Christmas. I am almost certain there are differences between how our 2 countries do it. Thanks a mil! That's the thing about new colour. It does take some getting used to. However I had my babies room, a spare room and the inside of my front door painted at the same time last week and love all of the colours chosen but this one I just can't look at. It turned out to be more of a minty green than the colour samples on the wall. One of the fabrics below are being make up in a footstool and I think it may be overkill with too much colour. I wanted the coushions and footstool to pop as those are the things you spend the most amount of money on rather than the paint. In saying that. The cost of the paint was expensive and also paying someone to do it. Now to do it all over again is not ideal.:(. i took the cushions and fabric into one of my other rooms to see what it looked like against a more neutral background and felt it looked a little better. See pics below. Any other paint suggestions are much appreciated.

Okay..... I've been having fun! I've attached the links below for some ideas but my best advice is go onto www.notonthehighstreet and look at their cushions and bedding etc. A theme would be good. Is there something they both like such as animals or circus or are you looking for something for them to grow with? What colours do they like? Is your boy extremely boyish (no pink mum!), is your girl fussy or strongminded? (my 2 year old is!)If you can find one thing that you really like and they both do too then it gives us a starting point. I'm thinking along the lines of plain bedding, a matching cushion on each bed in bright multicolours or an animal and then another cushion and throws to blend with the feature cushion. Artwork could be their names in letters (hobbycraft do brown ones that you can paint) or maybe even wall decals. I assume you meant "floor". Tiles are usually considered the safer option in areas that have potential for spills or floods. Do you have heavy traffic (shoes worn in house, animals, children, etc) in these areas? If so, then you will have to worry about scratches in the wood and the occasional sanding/refinishing of the floor. You will definitely want the underfloor heating if you live in an area that gets cold. It is a personal choice, as I put wood in my kitchen/sitting room, because I love the warm look and feel of wood. However, I constantly worry about the scratches from the chairs and stools. We don't wear shoes in the house, nor do we have any animals, but I have had to put felt pads on all of the legs of the furniture.

My Vet's office had a local artist paint a mural on each end. Their remodel has one end for cats...another for dogs.

But a mix of the 2 would be great.

Maybe a big framed corkboard area to hang notices, specials on vetting, lost/found fliers. Along with pics from "patients".

Local vet has framed poster size prints of her "clients" in color up on soft blue-gray walls.Never asked how these were chosen - but it might be a nice way to get to know your clients' owners - a contest!

I second both suggestions from hayleydaniels. We painted our guestroom a similar slightly peachy-butter color, and it is extremely warm, inviting and cheerful. You could also look at having a local artist paint an animal mural on that reception wall underneath the counter. I believe you can also have such things made by a sign company in a large-format "stick on" type thing -- can be made from a photo montage this way. This would provide both color and visual interest, and would hide nose prints and whatnot as well.

HI -- Great wall color is "Amsterdam" by Benjamin Moore will go great with that flooring . Then find some animal themed wallpaper or cover the front of the desk with some recycled vintage wood or composite decking boards or cement board siding . Or look a the fun patterns in Formica laminate . The best thing I think to have on the front counter would be Flor carpet tiles . If one gets dirty or christened by a dog then it can be pulled for cleaning or replacing .

Personally, i don't like hospitals with that sterile look. Give the room some FUN ! On that note, the reception desk wall a colorful/cheerful picture will uplift visitors' spirits...something like http://www.123rf.com/photo_18551556_a-collage-of-wild-animals-and-birds.html

I actually like the way the waiting room looks. (Way classier than my vet's.) If I were going to do anything to this space, I'd look at removing that dropped ceiling and hanging industrial lighting through the space.

Another thing you should do is to put down some area rugs to provide traction for elderly infirm dogs who will have trouble on that tile. Get ones that have a rubber backing, and can be washed off with a hose in case of accidents.

One other thing I meant to suggest is that you make it a practice to send sympathy cards when you have to put an animal to sleep. Our vets have done that when we've lost animals, and it meant a lot to me.

Don't see any comfortable chairs for clients. Our vet has a bench outside for the "antsy" pets who don't socialize well. Inside are more comfortable chairs.

The floor is great and functional. I would change the paint color from builder beige to a soft sage green. That will go with floor and not be quite so Blah.

Can we see a picture of the other side of the room? It looks like more comfy seating is needed...but it's probably where the picture was taken from? Looks just like my vets office in chittenango!

Is that a tile or vinyl floor? Greens can be very organic and soothing.

Any other vets out there remodeling their space? My vets bought from an "old school" guy with a great rep. One by one, they removed the fixed tables in exam rooms to very sturdy ones that fold up/down from the wall, as needed. Our vet gets on the floor with our pup, where he's comfy, and the exams go so much better than when he's perched on a clipper table and nervous
