Does anybody know if re-engineered wood flooring or wood effect door tiles would be a better choice for the downstairs of our new house. We have underfloor heating and would prefer low maintenance and would want it in the kitchen as well. Thanks!
I assume you meant "floor". Tiles are usually considered the safer option in areas that have potential for spills or floods. Do you have heavy traffic (shoes worn in house, animals, children, etc) in these areas? If so, then you will have to worry about scratches in the wood and the occasional sanding/refinishing of the floor. You will definitely want the underfloor heating if you live in an area that gets cold.
It is a personal choice, as I put wood in my kitchen/sitting room, because I love the warm look and feel of wood. However, I constantly worry about the scratches from the chairs and stools. We don't wear shoes in the house, nor do we have any animals, but I have had to put felt pads on all of the legs of the furniture.

It is a far better choice to use porcelain wood effect tiles on a under heating floor than re-engineered wood, the tiles are far much better conductor of heating than the wood that is an insulator.

The wood effect tiles have been created to give us the amazing visual impact of wood but with virtually no maintenance and being good transmitter of heat.....the combination is magic! I am sure you will love them!

I'd definitely go wood effect tiles. We've just put tiles throughout most of downstairs and they are great. However, we put a gorgeous engineered oak floor in good room and my nerves are shattered. Will the vacuum scratch it? Will the cat? You're not supposed to use a steam cleaner on it. I could go on. If it had been in the kitchen, I would need to be hospitalised!
