Typically go with the four inch, then on those short situations it goes all the way into the corner, whatever the dimension. You don't want to select your jamb trim based on worst case scenario. Can you select another trim style that will be less expensive but four inch width?

It may be the architects design, but it's your home and your kitchen. If you are comfortable with the plan, then go for it! A perspective view would help visualize the cabinets. Something like this.

We are trying to decide the layout of our kitchen and living room area in the house we are building. The room is narrow width 5 meters, and 8 meters long approx. We have our pantry and utility room to the right hand side so need to keep the kitchen in a space with easy access to both rooms. However the layout we have in design picture doesn't seem practical when we discuss it given how narrow the width is. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
