Decorating Dilemma!

Hello, I posted a couple of months ago about our dining room and we’re still no further one! I’m just after some advice about painting.. I want to make a feature wall out of the fireplace but don’t know whether to paint the whole wall including the cupboard and the wall behind the bookcase the same colour or do the cupboard different? Please help! I was going to do the fireplace wall a dark grey then the rest of the walls lighter grey but then I’m confused of what to do with the cupboard. Thanks!

Hi Emily,

That is a shame that you are stuck with this and feel a bit overwhelmed with the decisions you have to make. The room has a lovely window which makes a lovely spot for the dining table!

The room feels a bit unbalanced at the moment and if you were to make a feature wall of the chimney breast we think it might highlight this. We would suggest building the same tall built-in unit on the right hand side of the chimney breast matching the left. This will make everything feel more balanced and even.

I’m no expert but I’d consider painting everything on that wall the same colour so it looks more seamless. I think I watched Phil and Kirstie recommend this.
Also maybe the table if feasible needs to be in line with the fireplace and ceiling lamp and sit equal on the rug. I’d be tempted to throw a white linen table cloth on, as floor wood colour looks like it clashes a bit with the table.

I love dark walls and I think your hall with the shiny floors and the right finish on the wall make it special. You already have the wrought iron, which definitely dictates a certain look. I hesitate to recommend a specific color from my monitor, but look at the BM colors in the 1037’s through the 1078’s and see if there is something there which looks good with the tile.

Gravel driveway for 1930s red-brick!

We are having the same dilemma, albeit we have a 1913 Edwardian red brick house. I've bought a dozen bags of gravel and still haven't found the right one. The golden gravel looks terrible, greys look depressing and pinks jar too much with the red brick! We are leaning towards Cotswold stone but I'm concerned this is too traditional (the rest of our landscaping is contemporary). I've concluded I don't like gravel but having spent £££'s on the rest of the landscaping gravel is my only option. Sorry I can't be helpful but sometimes it's nice to know your not the only one having a dilemma!

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. It's curtains for me...

...unless I can figure this out. I'm in the middle of decorating our bedroom and having a curtain dilemma. The wall behind the bed will be yellow with a beige/sand colour on the rest. My issue is what to do with the curtains. I already have a light grey roller blind on the window but want heavier curtains. The wall with the window is adjacent to the yellow wall. Do I go complementary with a blue/purple, do I go neutral? This is really stressing me out.
