Enough space to get into shower with wc?

Thinking about moving the bathroom door which is currently where the blue avatar is to the left side where the sink is.
The bathroom at the moment has the WC to the left and the sink next to the shower but the toilet waste pipe is at the shower end so it's better closer to the shower.
Also, i want to make the entrance opposite the hall door so we can separate it from the bedroom in future ie so multiple people can use it without walking into someone's bedroom.
We can extend the left wall by 200mm inside if need be (prefer not too as more work!) but I was thinking the door could open outwards and not into the bathroom. Otherwise it's awkward.
Also concerned about the space between the WC and the shower entrance ie is it too small getting in and out? Doors will be 1080 I think so opening will be just slightly wider than the WC gap.

Make it a fully wet room and have the toilet at the far end of the room so you never have to walk past it? Yes there's issues with having a shower and soaking everything, but you could have bifolding screen or a shower curtain to divide the space when in the shower? Then stack the doors/curtain to the side when not in use and it'll feel like a spacious WC.

You could try swapping the locations of vanity and toilet. Go for a less deep vanity as well if possible. This would be an easier layout with a mirror being the first thing you see when. Opening the door. Then the shower and toilet have their "private" corners. Your door can open outwards if the corridor allows or you could go for a sliding pocket door.

East Kent Eco - again thank you for your input. As a pro I wonder if you could offer your thoughts on a couple of scenarios 1 - Leave bath where it is - what would be involved in moving the shower 4-6 inches to the centre of the bath? I did consider the P shaped bath and will consider your suggestion for a shorter bath to allow room for the toilet, but I currently had to put in a door stop to protect the shower door from the entrance door handle and I would be concerned about a rounded door being even closer. If I left the bath where it is I have a couple of options, turning the toilet and cistern 90 degrees to the adjoining wall - see above for the considerations there, or I have also considered switching the toilet and sink. I would put the sink facing the wall where the cistern currently is have a large-ish vanity from the base of the bath to the wall, and the if the toilet was where the sink is it would not interfere with the doors for the hot press as the seat would be considerably lower than the sink is currently thus giving me the better access I want. In this scenario the main issue for me would be the toilet would be facing the entrance door, a bit unsightly but if it gave me the space I want I think I could live with the compromise. 2 - A bit more involved, but I have also considered moving the bath sideways along the short length of the room, shower end over the space where the cistern is currently and moving the sink and toilet to the space where the bath is currently. I think this would allow me room for a vanity and maybe also a tall storage cupboard for the towels and linens currently in the hot press. The obvious concern with this is the shower spray in the direction of the hot press, if I got the storage I needed elsewhere in the bathroom I wouldn't be concerned about those getting wet, but would want to ensure I don't end up with a leak over the stairs. Access would also be an issue if repairs were required for the shower pump or the hot water system. You would have to step into the bath to gain access. Is there a solution to waterproof the cupboard?

Also, do you really need a bath in it? You could stick in a 1500mm shower along the right hand wall but back towards the door then a toilet and sink opposite each other under the window. Loads of natural light at the sink (could even be a double sink) and plenty of room to move around without it feeling too cramped.

Hi! What was your final decision? I am also working on my tiny WC and came to the following conclusions (after 2 months spent in tile shops, looking through houzz and pinterest photos). The tiles in small spaces: 1. Should reflect. The space should not be matt and absorb the light. The glazed tile reflects the objects like a mirror and creates depth. 2. Should not be oversized. When you like the big tiles on the photo you posted - just adore them at the picture. they will not go to a tine space. Compare the size of the bathroom and the size of the tile. Try to imagine the pattern. 3. Don't be mislead by professional designs and photos (like the ones you posted and you like). Most of them are the bathrooms which are really huge in size. So the tiles that are on the picture will not go for your project. You want a small SPA oasis? Forget about concrete and metal look and all the things like that. I took a sample of concrete tile in my bath... really you feel uncomfortable, when you step on the concrete barefoot, Though I have floor heating , I wouldn't go barefoot. Its concrete!:))) Concrete is good for a big loft or industrial design, I think. 5. For a SPA - look I would opt either for the mosaic (which is classical for SPA, but be careful with that. May be monochromatic or achromatic) or wood optic tiles combined with warm white tones. 6. Much color in small bathrooms is not a good option. It is better to add it with accessories. Moreover you can change the look just by replacing your turqoise towels by grey ones. You can add dynamics only by choosing not a typical size of the white tile and making an interesting pattern. For example, for my tiny WC i have 25x75 cm tiles and will put them in a brick wall style. What I have chosen for my tiny WC is a wood optic (very light) tile for the floor and white tiles for the walls. They will cover the wall by 120 cm. The rest of the wall will be covered with wallpaper (navy blue or dark gray). Or may be just painted. Wish you good luck!

Hello, what do you mean sorry re swap the locations?

The WC is normally to the left and the sink next to the shower. BUT if I put the door to the left side then i need to put sink on the left otherwise the WC will be in the way of the door?

I'm trying to work out if the space of 480/490 will be too small to get in/out of shower if the toilet is moved next to the shower?

What type of wall is behind the toilet and sink? Just thinking - if it’s a stud wall, you could put a narrow cistern into it and therefore gain space in front of the toilet bowl. We’ve had a narrow Geberit cistern for a few years now and it’s great.

Sadly it's a solid wall and goes into the new open plan kitchen /lounge 🙈

We did try and think about knocking theough into the kitchen to move the shower in there but it's so much more work and takes up the space we have just saved so can't really do it 😂 🙈

Ah sorry, the 480/490 gap is the space in front of the WC if I put it next to the shower 😬

Plumber said it's a bit tight ie the shower is 1090 wide so if I get a short projection wc against a 10mm wall panel then it would only leave 480 gap to walk into the shower. Or between the WC and the wall

If you do move the door, can you pivot the shower by 90 degrees so it goes along the long wall and then the toilet moves beside it. I have that layout and it works well. I think my bathroom has the same imensions

If I pivot the shower which is 800 wide then that would sably only give me less than 300 width for the WC which wouldn't fit 😔

I thought that would be idea that way, ha ha. But I don't want to make the shower a 700 wife as that will be too narrow? Even if it's longer, it will feel too cramped.

Hi, reading that you can extend the left wall by 200mm and your preference is to move the door could work to your advantage as you could build a hidden sliding door ‘wall’ externally allowing the door to slide within this partition wall without removing the actual current brick (guessing its brick) wall
Then rotate the sink (90 degrees) and mount on the existing wall, possibly reducing its size? as it appears to be a distance from that wall anyway! Then as the toilet is currently sitting on the left of the sink, you can move to a more central position towards the shower as I understand is what you are wanting to do as the soil pipe or plumbing is going that way.
Thus creating more space between the wc and shower cubicle entrance.
Tip: (no pressure though)
1. When you ‘fill’ the existing door cap you can incorporate recessed shelving for your shower ‘things’ etc and also by placing some LEDS recessed in each top of how many shelves you decide to have creating a nice ambiance 😉 when using the room.
2. Have these switched on separately (all) say with a single shower recessed light above as it will also help just popping in during the night 😉 visit without the full array of lights being used!

One other idea if using the above for your final design is maybe consider of not using the sliding door arrangement for the shower entrance… instead use a fixed glass panel say 2/3’rds or slightly over 1/2 of the length of the base, also then allow consideration of the position of the shower tap(s) and overhead spout towards one end - opposite end to the entrance 😁 ! 👍🏻

Thank you, I've managed to get a shorter wc so I can put it as I've drawn now as there is 500 space in front of the WC to get into the shower which is what we have in our own one and have no issues getting past it! Glad I measured it, ha ha.

We are also moving the door to the end but keeping the same size to keep costs down otherwise have to move the fire alarm bell as well and it's just getting so expensive! 🙈

How about building a narrow wall and tiling it instead of the shower screen, then have the basin against that wall, all plumbng inside the wall, that would give you a bigger opening to the shower (just a gap). Then have the loo where I think it currently is but turned so that if you are sitting on it you are looking at the basin so there would still be space for the door next to the loo.

Thanks @ C Wilson.. Never thought about that but we have already purchased all the shower door and furniture now.

The issue with the loo and moving it further left is that the pipes run under the floor into the next room so it would mean extending the ceiling box which wouldn't be great. Hence why I needed to move it closer.

Thank you though! Something to think about for future ones.
