Under stairs help desperately needed

Hi all, This is the view as you come in our front door and im at a loss what to do with space… (im limited to considering sideboard, close it off for storage…queen anne chair and lamp… etc) Cant decide and its beginning to bother me. Any suggestions would be hugely welcome and appreciated!

It would make a lovely reading nook or storage with a seat-boot room style.

It seems like you've got plenty of space.. maybe built-in storage under stairs? I would say that, all comes down to your interior design and preference of choice.. similar stairs were painted here: Modern stairs painted white

I am a fan of black as a disappearing colour! If the tha bannisters were painted black the Victorian look of cast iron would fit. The walls are too pale , would you consider a dark green( FB Green Smoke) under the rail, next to the carpet, and a much lighter version above( FB Light Blue or Pale Powder). Not really sure of the shade of green in the carpet, it might be more FB Oval Room. I am fond of the Pugin look but realise it is powerful and invariably used with very dark paints. We changed our ginger brown stairs, over 3 storeys to white. 13 years later the effort was not only worth it but the pain has subsided too!

If you are worried about the hallway being dark why not have a fully glazed door into the open plan area at this bottom of the stairs. This would allow you to see straight through the house when you walk in the front door and make the hallway feel much brighter and less closed in?

Is there anyone who loves a stain you've used on a refurbished oak staircase? I'm looking for a medium - dark color, but not black. Should I go with medium tone or dark espresso tone? If you have brand names, that would be a huge help :) Obviously changing the carpet LOL The walls are grey with a very slight green tint, like toward the bottom of the walls (not pink!!) Also, on the corners of the face of each step there is a wraparound piece. Should that be stained dark or painted white (the color the skirt will be) ? Thank you so much!
