We uncovered the original kitchen quarry tiles when we moved into our house over 20 years ago. We are looking at knocking down a couple of walls within the kitchen thus making the area larger. The rooms that will be incorporated are of a different level and we are looking at raising the existing floor in the kitchen. We keep reading conflicting advice that quarry tiles can’t be covered over or screeded as this will push damp up towards the walls. We’ve also read that even if we dig up the existing floor we could still encounter problems with damp. Our goal is to level the floor area and lay a new floor. Keeping the existing quarry tiles is not an option. TIA
