Need help deciding what to use to floor my hallway!!

We were originally going to go with black and white victorian style tiles, but now I think in a slightly wider hall this will look too busy.

We have oak doors and the stairs has oak handrails and steps. There are ordinary cream porcelain tiles in the kitchen, which leads off the hall so, while I would like to use something like a travertine tile, I think it will just negatively show up the cheaper kitchen tiles.
We are planning to wainscot the walls in white.
We have got out an Acacia wood sample and this seems quite nice and might work with the oak?

There is a living room with double doors also leading off the hall so which needs to be floored too, so it might be nice to use the same flooring in both the hall and that room?
Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Please ignore the nasty temporary carpet and light fittings - very much a work in progress!!
