Dear Houzz Community,

I promise this is the last poll. I am racking my brains trying to identify two doors to the ground floor of my property. Let me take you guys on a little tour.

Outside of home

First door gap to the living room as soon as you open the front door and Second door from the living room to the kitchen:

Before you make up your mind from the selection below, I think it is important to realise that I have already installed the upstairs doors as follows:

Office/Box Room Bedroom:

Bedroom 1

Bedroom 2

If I could go back and change to white instead of light grey I would but that ship has sailed. For the two gaps downstairs, I would like a white door and the choices are:

Option 1 - A completely new design that doesn't match either the exterior or upstairs doors (x2)

Option 2 - A door design that matches the exterior door but does not match upstairs doors (x2)

Option 3 - Exact same door design as office in white for both gaps (x2)

Option 4 - Exact same door design as bedroom and office but in white where the non-glass door is access to living room gap AND glass version of the door is access to kitchen gap (x1 of each)

I think you have too many mixtures. Normally you’d fit the same design of doors throughout.

It’s all coming together Jason.
I would just finish off with a few extras to make it feel decorated:

I would paint the alcove the same deep blue colour as the opposite wall.

I would use a sheepskin rug over the back of the small chair to disguise its traditional shape and lighted it against the dark blue alcove- then add a cushion that is repeated on the sofa. I would choose a velvet cushion for additional texture- a pattern would be good too.

I wouldn’t go smaller on the TV unit- I would just paint it a paler taupe colour.

TV- personally I think what you have suits the size of the room- and bigger could look top heavy on the tv unit.

I would add a floor up lighter- these are really good at creating atmosphere under an oversized houseplant or behind a sofa.

Assuming you choose a round coffee table I would choose a round mirror- I bet when you measure it will need to be 100-120cm- if you can’t find a big copper mirror black or wood or brass will work.

Window treatment- Personally I would love to see slatted wood blinds. Wider slats looks more contemporary and more expensive.

Then you need to find some pictures you love. I think you need two (one above the other) to the left of the tv. You need one for the alcove. And probably an oversized picture that is dark blue for over the hall radiator to visually tie the lounge and hall spaces together.

So keep up your enthusiasm and I bet this room will end up looking very sophisticated.

Flipping heck Jonathan, you and Claire have absolutely smashed it.

So I've ordered that rug I posted below. This will be here next week. Will this work with everything you have suggested?

Painting the Alcove sounds amazing. Jonathan, can you indicate roughly on the room image what area the paint covers in the alcove. Im just a little confused about where the lines (perimeter/edges) start and stop?

You mentioned cushions and I like the mustard yellow Clair suggested. If I get some velvet cushions, how many of these do I need? 3? and where do I place them? - 1 on each sofa and the chair? Do I need any other cushions?

You mentioned round copper mirror? Do I place on the current blue wall and do I centralise the position to the wall or center over the 2 seater?

I will be happy to go for a round coffee table but I haven't found a good sized one yet.

Hi Becky I'm not sure what style you are looking for but try www.solidor.co.uk These are the best low maintenance front doors you can get with lots of options on colours, inside and out. We are one of their installers in Colchester and have four on display, if we are near enough pop in, if not just find a local installer. if you are after timber we supply Bereco, again go to their website, not cheap but beautiful. Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. Hi Jason, I think the alcove will look lovely painted in the Hague Blue and with some low lighting and your chair it will be the perfect nook.

Regarding cushions, I would try to choose a combination of plain and patterned, I think if they are all the same it could look a bit contrived. Here's an idea I've added to the moodboard. They're all from Dunelm but you could get similar from other places. With regarding texture, I would suggest going for what you like - I know there are some textures I really don't like at all! A combination of textures is good too - the ones I've added are combination of velvet and chenille. I would go for at least 2 cushions on each sofa to start with but 4 on the large sofa if you can afford or at a later date. Just 1 on the armchair will be enough. For example, you could have 2 patterned and 2 mustard on the 3-seater and 2 mustard on the 2 seater and patterned on the armchair. Or you could have 2 mustard/2 grey on the 3 seater. I like to place mine symmetrically. I've added a photo of how to arrange cushions on a sofa - there are lots of other images online for inspiration.

You will want to get a grey throw to go on the sofa too to add more texture and cosiness!

Should I get an 8th cushion (another patterned on)e to go between the 4 cushions on the 3 seater or is that overkill.

Hi both, so both doors are on now with the copper handles.

I've ordered 5 cushions for the 3 seater per Claires suggestions - 2 mustard, 2 Greg and 1 patterned. I've ordered another single patterned cushion for the arm chair.

I haven't ordered any cushions for the two seater. Did you say I go with 2 mustard only here Claire? I'm assuming they will be the the musrards that are going on the 3 seater? If not, please link me to which ones I should get.

As you can see from the images, I managed to centralise the 2 seater sofa the blue wall, which allowed for a round copper mirror. I have ordered this 100cm x 100cm one and I'll hang it 12-15 inches above the sofa. Question, should this 12-15 inches be from the position of the collapsed sofa headrest or should I extend the headrest first and then measure 12-15 inches above the extended position?

Wow, Jason, it’s really coming together now! I love the layout and glad you managed to centralise the 2 seater. The mirror will look fab above it on the blue wall. Yes, get a couple of mustard cushions for the 2-seater. You can always change them around with the others. Can’t wait to see how it looks with the rug!

Claire, Jon. I absolutely love the mirror. I thought it would have been solid copper but it's basically wood with a copper finish. The two Saffron mustard (look like gold) cushions come next week for the two seater. What should I go for next? Remember I will be replacing the TV Unit for a Taupe coloured one per Jonathan's suggestion. I think I'd like a coffee table. Do the nested round ones that Jonathan posted still work or would you go for something else? I'm so happy guys. Love you beautiful people. New pic attached.

Wow, Jason, it’s really coming together! The mirror looks great. I think adding a nest of tables could work well particularly the wooden topped ones. It would be lovely to add that warmth to the room. Alternatively a glass table would also look good. You probably don’t want anymore copper now.

It comes with different woods. But ive just bought the one as you saw in the picture. The height is similar to the height of the sofas. Im not 100% on the width but its 80cm, which I think works. I don't think there was a smaller option.

Looks lovely Jason. I like the way the legs of the table have the same line movement as the pattern on the rug. You just need a lamp or two at some point - but wait until you see something you like. Good evening of football too 😉

Thanks Claire. I liked the tripod lamp too and have ordered it. One more question, remember in your earlier mood board you said something about squeezing a storage unit somewhere. I was thinking of replacing my TV cabinet with this but wasn't sure if the colour of the wood would work. Thoughts on this? I really like that Jason, I think it’ll look great. I don’t think you need to match the colour of the wood everywhere. The black goes with the side tables. I like the industrial look too - very contemporary.

Thanks Claire. I feel like i need to be in the Dunelm Hall of Fame book. I went in at the weekend and bought a couple of cushions. They weren't exactly the same but similar colour and different texture. This is what they look like:

I've just bought the tripod lamp and the TV unit. Il take a new picture when they are in-situ.

Claire, would you put anything towards the right and/or left of the mirror on the blue wall?

I prefer the Dunelm one myself. How do you feel about getting a tallish plant for one corner - are you good at watering? Shall we see how it looks with the lamp in situ? I don’t immediately think you need anything else on the wall. Are you going to have a picture in the nook opposite?

Claire before I make a commitment to a new TV Unit, what are your thoughts of mounting the TV to the wall and simply having a floating shelf below it for the satellite box or soundbar?

Hi Jason, I prefer the TV unit myself. I suppose you could mount it and just have a sideboard or something underneath. I guess it depends on your budget really. You wouldn’t want the TV yo high on the wall though.

I’m not sure about the trays on the glass table. I think black metal or similar might be better as a contrast against the wood in the table if you need trays?

What can I put on the other side table? A plant or something?

The tall floor standing lamp on the left side - would that be too close the vertical radiator?

I think the tall floor standing lamp could look great in that corner. A plant somewhere too. You could have a play around with what looks best in what corner.

So im going with a floor stander Claire.

As you can see the mini table lamp is black and copper on the right side table.

Claire I'm going to wall mounted the TV and then find a Taupe floating shelf to go underneath.

What's missing you reckon? Pictures on the wall around the TV? Would you out anything to the right of the round mirror?

I've been following this thread from the start and the room looks great! Personally I'd stop after your TV suggestion, nothing else is needed and it could risk looking too cluttered.

The room is looking good. personally i would break up the solid yellow on that back wall with a patterned oblong cushion. I’d also add a slim vase of stems on the table and something smallish in the bowl to layer the height etc (try the bowl off centre). I’d also add a tasselled wool etc throw over the arm of the sofa in the forefront to add texture.

Assuming the tv fits (as the shelf needs to be wider), I’d go for a slightly shorter unit than you currently have as it looks too close to the door and side table. You could add art over the side table, something a bit more than half the height of the mirror although I might get the shelf first. I’d also add art in the alcove. Again personal opinion but I might continue the blue on each wall to disguise the tv
