Advice please on how to style the chimney breast

I’m renovating my kitchen. The island will be off black and other units amonite. It’s a big space. I’m putting in a wood burner and having cupboard doors and shelves made for the alcoves. I’m unsure what to put on the central wall - false mantlepiece and mirror, artwork, any ideas and photos, please share. Thanks in advance

This might sound a bit like being on the fence given the advice you've had already... How about a mid to dark grey ( less contrast than black), RAL 7022 is a favourite of mine (warmer grey), or look at a green grey, as something that will have the colour of the olive, with a good amount of contrast against the white render, (you won't have the warm rich colours of the brickwork as in the photos above (which the olive looks good against)). If you are painting the timber windows you would do well to look at microporous opaque stains to reduce your on-going maintenance. A benefit of aluclad composite windows is colour outside can be factory supplied different to the interior finish. Hope this might help. Regards, Nick

Hi Becky I'm not sure what style you are looking for but try www.solidor.co.uk These are the best low maintenance front doors you can get with lots of options on colours, inside and out. We are one of their installers in Colchester and have four on display, if we are near enough pop in, if not just find a local installer. if you are after timber we supply Bereco, again go to their website, not cheap but beautiful. We also can supply Grey windows, not in 50 shades, but in 3, so you can have from light to dark. Anything else just ask. Regards Joe

hey everyone, So i'm sooo undecided on how to bring our living room together. We painted the chimney breast choc brown and the fire place cream which I like the look of. We have and a brown and flecked cream carpet and duck egg/ brown/ cream /gold striped curtains. The couches are yellowy cream colour but we may be changing them to cream and getting an L shaped couch. The bookcase came with the place so we probably move that out and the sideboard is going in the kitchen where there is a glass cabinet at the moment ( ill also attach photo of the kitchen) and will be getting a different one for the space. The TV stand is a warm oak and the nest of tables are beech. I can't decide on whether to get an oak and cream painted coffee table like this One http://www.greatfurnituretradingco.c...m-coffee-table .I saw it in a shop in dublin but they don't have it online to link it to. Or else a light oak one see image attached. I like the matching sideboard to the light oak coffee table but was unsure if I got both it'd be too matched. Our living room is north facing so a cold room so would want furniture to warm it up. Would get a rug aswell for under the coffee table. Was thinking of putting floating cream shelves above the sideboard and then a nice picture above the couch at the back of the room. I've attached photos of my living room and the furniture. What do people think?? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think I’d go for a surround personally to give more presence/height to the fireplace. ignore the awful photoshop, it was just to give a visual of sorts :)

Love minnie’s suggestion. Another option is a thick wooden mantle which can look really nice with a wood burner and tiled fireplace.

I would be inlcined to wait until it's finished and painted in case it needs to be left airy to create some simplicity. Once the cupboards are painted it might be easier to decide.

I think a lovely big mirror in gold or silver will always look good, i think the photo with the plants above aslo looks good, you could maybe include some fairy lights on the beam to make it feel even more cosy with maybe some ivy?

If the fireplace is the feature then a large unfussy mirror would be my suggestion.
