Help with hall decoration.

Hello!

I’ve recently moved home and have a large light hallway…but there are lots of doors.

Lounge, kitchen and a linen cupboard on one side and a storage cupboard with sliding doors on the other…I’ve decorated the porch using Cromarty (I’ll add a photo below) but not sure what to do here.
I prefer light schemes.

Was thinking about a rug? But my husband thinks it will be annoying…I think it will soften the area.

The colour tester on the wall is school house white but it looks drab here.

I was thinking about a radiator cover with a mirror above…or picture perhaps.

What about the woodwork…keep it white?

Love the floor and the curved stairs but that is a lot of doors! The porch doors

match the panelled doors but the sliding doors have more of a cottage vibe and I think if it was my home I would try and find a way to change them, perhaps mirror doors to reflect the light or maybe it’s possible to add a thin veneer of painted MDF over the v-grove doors.

With regard to colour I love the Cromarty! Would you consider carrying it on through the hall? It would set off the white woodwork beautifully.

And yes, you are right, that floor definitely needs a rug! I’d go for a patterned non slip flat weave which is really low maintenance. Add a tall floor standing plant and I think it will come together nicely.

I love dark walls and I think your hall with the shiny floors and the right finish on the wall make it special. You already have the wrought iron, which definitely dictates a certain look. I hesitate to recommend a specific color from my monitor, but look at the BM colors in the 1037’s through the 1078’s and see if there is something there which looks good with the tile.

A niche would be a good way to add some drama without infringing on your circulation space. It doesn't have to be deep to be effective. You can do one simple vertical rectangle, and line the back with a mirror, or add some colour with paint, wallcovering or wood. It would be great if you could also add a recessed light fixture at the top. The attached images are perhaps too busy for your situation, but it gives you a good idea of what can be done. Good luck!

Thanks so much Claire…so many doors, I hope to get rid of the middle one when we do the kitchen.

Love the idea of covering the doors…I have thought about getting rid of them completely…it is very shallow and we have plenty of other storage, it would mean that wall is useable.

In my last house I was very neutral…the most colour I had was F&B slipper satin 🤣 so even Cromarty is quite wild haha…but I do think you are right it would look lovely with the white and the floor.

I will put my foot down about a rug, I think it will make a huge difference.

I have Cromarty in my living room and I just love it. I would carry it through as it looks lovely with white and with wood. I like your stair area, very unusual.

Thanks Sonia, I think what I’ll do is paint half a wall and see how it looks…I’ve still got half a tin here. Maybe I’ll pick a slightly softer white like Wimboure white so it’s not so harsh.

Love your porch area colours and your hallway flooring and the great light. Agree you should continue to colour here. Like your idea for the radiator cover and mirror but make the cover larger than the radiator and have good sized mirror. I would remove the cupboard and put in a reading nook maybe or a good sized hall table. Love the curved stairs. I would have cushions on it rather than the picture and plant to present like a seat. I’d swap the chair and your table and put in a more substantial chair. I think you are right about putting in a rug.

Hi all, I’ve made a start on the hallway, changing the sliding doors on the right isn’t an option at the moment, I’m thinking that I may get rid of them altogether in time, we will need to skim all ceilings at some point…we are currently building an extension and when that’s done we will start on this side but I think these changes have warmed up the space…I’m going to get a rug too…but with the work going on I can’t put it down yet anyway 😊

I got the paint for half price, it wasn’t my first choice but when I saw the reduction I though I’d just go for it and I’m super happy. Farrow and Ball Drop Cloth…the only new addition is the radiator cover everything else I had already.

Beautiful hallway and definitely a wow factor is needed in the middle. Great choice of the colour! Now few more finishing touches and it will look perfect.
