Need help for my entrance hall wall!

Hi All
I have a blank wall which I'd love to do something with. It is the first thing you see when entering my home as it is right in front of the front door.The stairs are to the right and a wall of window to the left. I don't really want to do a gallery wall of pictures as I have some going up the stairs and there isn't really enough space for a piece of furniture... Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Comments (3)Empty out the furniture and fixtures there, including the lamp and ceiling fixture.Use a storage bench instead for a place to sit and remove shoes. Shoes or backpacks can be dropped inside it. You can get much better lighting from a fixture that has lights to wash the ceiling and to light the floor. What is under your stairs? Do you have room to install some storage there? Pull out stair drawers might work for shoes, and you might add some pull outs under the stairs if they are suited for it. A foyer should serve to introduce you, your style and the decor to be expected in the adjoining rooms. I would key furnishings and paint to what is going on in the rooms left and right of the foyer. Everything I see hanging on the walls is hung too high. The general rule is that the center point of a single piece or a grouping should be 5' above the floor. If the first piece at the bottom of the stairwell is hung at that level, you can use painter's tape to tape the center line all the way up the stairs and arrange pictures above and below the line, with a few centered right on it for a more pleasant arrangement. 9 years agoperhaps a vertical piece of chalk art in a black frame. Words relating to your family, names, mottos. Keep it simple. A mirror on that wall, would not be the ideal thing as you said it faces the door. The is not good feng shui. But if that does not matter to you at all an extra large full-length mirror would fit the space nicely. Something like the attached pictures

8 years agoA niche would be a good way to add some drama without infringing on your circulation space.
It doesn't have to be deep to be effective. You can do one simple vertical rectangle, and line the back with a mirror, or add some colour with paint, wallcovering or wood. It would be great if you could also add a recessed light fixture at the top. The attached images are perhaps too busy for your situation, but it gives you a good idea of what can be done. Good luck!
