Hello, what plants are they growing either side of the pool? Thanks,

We are looking to plant a screening plant on one side of our pool. These look similar to some native ginger varieties that I'm looking at. I'd love to know what these plants are.

This is Heliconia Tropics is a vigorous grower with a tight clumping and upright habit that makes it a great landscaping plant grown en masse, or planted in a feature pot. Bracts are pastel red toward the tips, fading to peach at the base and flower bloom through spring and autumn.

Be mindful of both exposure to high wind areas and full sun

Lots of ideas....couldn't resist adding my two cents. i copied your photos and did a little cut and paste- it's messy, but hopefully gets the main idea across. i'd put your sofa in front of the large book case, chair by the fireplace, tv on the stand on the wall opposite the fireplace - so you can either look at the fire or the tv. Someone suggested using frames of one color for your photos - an inexpensive way to do that would be to spray paint them all a dark color-black goes with everything. Since your shelves are a medium tone wood, display things that are dark or light so that they contrast against the wood. Limiting your display items pallette to a few values usually helps to unify things. (I think that's why so many people want to paint the shelves or put inserts in the back to help your nice things read more clearly...some get lost). If you want to "splurge" -you may consider having a carpenter make a few solid tall cabinet doors to provide a visual break in the shelving. I'm showing 3 doors - 1 on the right side of the fireplace and 2 on the left to leave two open vertical shelves for display on each side - with things arranged to frame the fireplace as the focal point. To add some height to your big vases, consider stacking some books beneath them. Enjoy experimenting untill you get something you're happy with - good luck!

Hello Jen, I am so surprised that no one has mentioned vertical blinds to you? They are very much back in fashion and work beautifully in a room such as yours. They come in 3.5" veins, which mean they will fold back and tuck into each recess when fully open. They turn to let as much light in as you need and then close when you want full privacy. They will be fitted in the recess above the windows. You can either have one complete rail length or two so you have a separate section over the door. You can have what's know as a middle split, i.e: half goes left and right. Personally I would suggest one length that opens to the left, therefore leaving your door completely uncovered when open. The pulley system is very much like a roller blind and are safety fixed to the wall so children can not get caught in them. They come in a huge rang of colours and materials and better still they are very affordable. I am working with a number of new developments in Hertfordshire at the moment and these are what the clients are all asking for. Hello mn0304, I think it looks very nice!! Don't really see institution at all... Some foliage and large pots for decoration or with Olive trees between the windows would be lovely... Difficult to see what type of windows they are.. Sash and wood would mean they could be painted a nice colour.. I'd suggest a granite or dark green.. If they are upvc with a grid design between two panes as I have just come across with another person I offered suggestions to.. then that's a bit tricky.. I don't have any experience with upvc but I do know of products that allow you to paint onto plastic.. Can't see the front door to offer any suggestions here.. but if you can't paint the windows I would think of two bays at the front door... and some lovely large stone pots between the side windows.. You could also carry the large pot idea down the side of the drive at intervals.. This one is terracotta but you can also find faux.... Then more money for roof! :))

Hello nicnoll, Another idea could be to have a wall light that is all about the bulb! A few links to both ideas.... Copper is good too... One other idea... have a rose with multi flex wires... centralised where the current one is.. Then choosing cable/flex and lengths.. run them along to where you want.. either along ceiling.. in loops with hooks to loop round and fix position, so then excess becomes a drop pendant to add something lovely.... Or you run them in loops across the ceiling to the opposite wall and have a wall light fitting but the electric cable comes from the one ceiling point. So less to do wiring wise..
