A face lift

We just bought this house and would love to change the exterior to make it a bit more inviting and less like an institution! Firstly, we really don't like the green so we will paint it white with light grey on bottom panel, change glass in windows to clear glass getting rid of the lines. I would love to put a bay window in where the first two windows are (to the left) Or if that's not possible, maybe a porch onto the front door and change the door to a wooden door - not sure what colour. We also plan to convert the attic so thinking about sky lights/ dormer windows up top. Any advise/opinions greatly welcome. Thanks!

I think it looks very nice!! Don't really see institution at all... Some foliage and large pots for decoration or with Olive trees between the windows would be lovely... Difficult to see what type of windows they are.. Sash and wood would mean they could be painted a nice colour.. I'd suggest a granite or dark green.. If they are upvc with a grid design between two panes as I have just come across with another person I offered suggestions to.. then that's a bit tricky.. I don't have any experience with upvc but I do know of products that allow you to paint onto plastic..

Can't see the front door to offer any suggestions here.. but if you can't paint the windows I would think of two bays at the front door... and some lovely large stone pots between the side windows.. You could also carry the large pot idea down the side of the drive at intervals.. This one is terracotta but you can also find faux.... Then more money for roof! :))

I don't think it looks institutional either.

If it were my house I would make the front door more obvious by putting a path straight up to it rather than sideways. If this path was bordered by large planting this would give the entrance more prominence.

Personally I am not mad keen on the tarmac outside what is likely bedroom windows. I think I would rather see more greenery here.

Do you have another dining area? You could gain a ton of space if you moved the table out. If you don't want to redo cabinets, you could put a tall armoire where the changing table is. You could use it to get stuff off of the counters.

It is a gorgeous room with lovely features. I would second Minnie's colour choices, I have Farrow & Ball Pale Powder in my bedroom and it is a gorgeous colour - like an Eau de nil but changes colour throughout the day and is very soothing. I have dark wooden floors and dark brown leather sofas like you and I think I'm going with Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light when I come to decorate to give everything a lift, a pale rug is also a great idea. The cabinets you mention I would choose white to go with your existing bookcase and also to keep things light against the walls. i have to decide on the type of sliding aluminium doors to put in. There is 900euro difference between lift and slide or ordinary sliders. The entire double slider is approx 3.5M i.e approx 1.75M per door. Just one door sliding back on a fixed pane. Has anyone got advice for me? Is there so much of a difference to warrant the extra cost? The windows come with a 15 year guarantee. Thanks in advance for any advice, Anne

Thanks for the comments yes the windows are upvc so we will probably keep them white but change the panes of glass to get rid of the grids. I definitely agree the front door needs to be more prominent, I would like to change it to a wooden door and change the orientation of the steps up to it or maybe puta porch on it :)
