island lighting problem

Little issue - the last electrician who wired the kitchen up was supposed to wire it to have 3 individual pendants above the island.
We had to swap electrician as the original couldn’t be bothered to come back and the new one pulled through one cable.
The problem is that we have a steel above the island seating area so we can’t pull the cable forward and it currently sits almost in line with the edge of the hob!
Also, there is only one cable so we can’t retrospectively drill through any joists either side to move the cable so now we are stuck with having to find a light fitting on a bar to get lights over to each side.
Not only that, we have to try and find something that can hide us pulling the cables back at bit so it sits another 100mm past the hob above the actual seating area.
I have a spider light already in the dining side so didn’t want to have more draped lights above the island.
Also didn’t want a chunky bit metal bar across the ceiling as we intend to have a hanging metal framework above the island at some point for cooking so it might clash with it.
There must be a simple solution - any magic ideas??
Ps it’s the cable to the right side. The one on the left is for a spot light the original guys put in (stupid place!!) which we are capping off and hiding)

Comments (4)Absolutely don't swap them. You have very good reasons to picture them where you have. It's where they belong. In an open space like this, you can get away with a chandelier in the lounge as long as you have one over the dining table as well. If there's only one, stick with the dining room. That leaves the warm, elegant and relaxing light for lounging by and the double-ended rectangular light for better efficiency working in the kitchen. I absolutely love that pendant lamp, btw. Comments (28)Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. Comments (0)Hey folks I think I have gone a little wrong in my kitchen lighting and wiring plan. I have a mildly vaulted ceiling (so it's high) and originally i had planned to run a kitchen island down the centre with the table across the door at the back. So i positioned the two pendant light cables accordingly down the centre. There is a ring of spot lights all around the edge of the room. Now the island will be shifted right closer to the main worktop and the table will run parallel on the other side closer to the door leaving my two centre lights hanging over nothing as such. Moving/extending the cables is going to be challenging. Will this look at bit daft? Any suggestions of light fittings for this sort of scenario?
