damaged bamboo flooring. help!

Our lovely bamboo flooring laid about 5 years ago is now looking very damaged and has a scaly effect which does look a little better when cleaned. It’s near a door that’s frequently used but it gets wiped very quickly if there are any damp footprints. The installer told me never to use any cleaning product or polish, so it gets cleaned of dust and has a light microfibres mop and dry twice a week. Scratches are tackled with a bit of wd40 as he told me. The flooring runs through the kitchen and most of the downstairs and it’s fine elsewhere so I’m reluctant to rip it all up or just give in and carpet that zone. Help will be appreciated!
