Comments (16)Thanks for the explanation. Try a wall that is drawers up to waist high, cupboards above that. YOu can add pull-out cutting boards at waist height so that you can put things there when unpacking groceries and putting things away in the cabinets and drawers: Drawers will help but they will not increase storage space by a factor of two. You could also add drawers where the microwave is now and continue to keep the microwave on top. Here is another wall of wood cabinets: Although it will not solve your storage problem, I recommend that you pull everything out of the cabinets and drawers, one drawer or shelf at a time. Be flexible about storing things elsewhere while the children are very small. Or discarding "aspirational cooking" implements (egg slicers, orange zesters, martini shakers. lobster-shaped gelatin molds) that just haven't been used in years. Families with children tend to accumulate an enormous amount of plastic stuff. In six months or a year, they will need different plastic stuff!...See MoreChopping boards..
Comments (3)That's right, just use food safe mineral oil periodically. Be sure to dry it right after washing and if you ever need to refresh it, use sandpaper followed by oil....See MoreWhite counter tops
Comments (8)I have a white corian and love it. It brightened the kitchen so much. I think the Only thing you can set hot pots on is ceramic tile. I have made trivets out of pretty tiles. Go to the store and find a tile you love buy one or two and then cut felt slides that stick, like for the bottom of a chair leg or buy precut ones. These are great! I use them on lots of things. They are under my coffee pot, toaster, large cutting board, garbage bowl I keep on the counter, anything I move that's kind of big or heavy on the counter. Corian requires no sealing. Only thing that has thought about staining so far was grated carrots, or the skin gratings from carrots. But then I just worked on the spot lightly with a scotch bright pad. I saw somewhere that someone else tried a mr clean eraser n corian. Staining in my integrated white sink is zero. Installed in January 2013. I have had corian in a previous house with no problems also....See MoreWork top
Comments (5)Hello annemariedonohue, I think it would be really stylish to continue the marble on the worktop but suggest quartzite worktop as it's harder wearing. I imagine you might be introducing a table or something and so I don't imagine there will be much echo, there are also walled cabinets which will absorb sound. To bring in warmth add some lovely wooden chopping boards in a stack and some marble ones too.. Some lovely finishes are handles and square cup handles are pretty hot right now.. Also you could consider painting the walls that are exposed a lovely chalky off white, cream or stone colour.. Earthy colours and matt.... : ))...See MoreHeather Griffin
