I need a colour or idea for a work top to match my off white kitchen with the floor tiles

I'd suggest wood, as it will help combat the echo effect in a room that looks as though it might echo somewhat due to the tiled floor.

Hi Emily , a spoke with a local stone merchant and he got a piece in for me - the piece was badly stained from the transport straps and the merchant convinced me it wasnt workable for kitchens surface ... First before you think of putting grey on your walls take into account the light in your kitchen. Where do you live? Is it sunny most of the year? Is your sky grey 4 to 6 months of the year in the winter and spring? Grey can be very depressing when you are surrounded by it day after day. My vote is for white walls or a light color. You also have to take into account what the other rooms are painted that are open to the kitchen's sight line.

Hello annemariedonohue,

I think it would be really stylish to continue the marble on the worktop but suggest quartzite worktop as it's harder wearing. I imagine you might be introducing a table or something and so I don't imagine there will be much echo, there are also walled cabinets which will absorb sound.

To bring in warmth add some lovely wooden chopping boards in a stack and some marble ones too.. Some lovely finishes are handles and square cup handles are pretty hot right now..

Also you could consider painting the walls that are exposed a lovely chalky off white, cream or stone colour.. Earthy colours and matt.... : ))

Hello,

A marble worktop would look nice or wooden one for a natural feel. You could consider adding black, white or grey in terms of colours.
