I think it would be really stylish to continue the marble on the worktop but suggest quartzite worktop as it's harder wearing. I imagine you might be introducing a table or something and so I don't imagine there will be much echo, there are also walled cabinets which will absorb sound.
To bring in warmth add some lovely wooden chopping boards in a stack and some marble ones too.. Some lovely finishes are handles and square cup handles are pretty hot right now..
Also you could consider painting the walls that are exposed a lovely chalky off white, cream or stone colour.. Earthy colours and matt.... : ))
