Hello, lovely Kitchen! Can i ask where you got the doors from please?

We're in the process of having a kitchen extension with steel doors and windows. We are in touch with Fabco, would you recommend them? We're also in touch with the Steel Window Service who are a lot more expensive (by nearly £4k!). They use aluminium beading as opposed to silicon (used by Fabco). Silicon has a better thermal rating but I've been told can discolour, however, apparently the aluminum beading can rust and doesn't have such a good thermal rating. The Steel Window Company say we can have full height floor to ceiling doors ie 7 squares high whereas with Fabco the top set of window panes would be stationary ie 6 squares high. Which would you advise?

I really think it's the plants that are supposed to be the center of attraction so I have a hard time thinking of anything better than painting the wall gray and the planters charcoal. However, trying to keep an open mind I did locate the photo above with yellow planters, which would be pretty against a gray wall. But looking at your very lovely blue door, I could see repeating that very same color on the planters and leaving the wall gray. It's always a good thing to repeat an existing color when it looks as great as that one does. That blue would be dynamite on a planter filled with green plants and colorful blooms.

Hello the days are brightening up by now and I'm sure the room is looking less drab for it. However I think furniture rearranging will work wonders. You seem to have nice low window sills: show them off. If the sofa goes to the left between window and built-in unit you'll have a view out to the garden and more light in the room. Equally: can you fit the piano between the radiator and the double doors? Again: more light through the window. Low sills are a god-send, and so many of us are stuck with high ones. The room will feel more spacious with a good view to outdoors. The armchairs then: one to the left of the fireplace and one between the other window and piano. TV then between the two windows. (No shine on the screen) Does that fit maybe? Or do you need all five seats facing the TV? I rather like those stripy cushions. Can you find a striped wallpaper in matching colors and with an irregular pattern repeat for your accent wall? if going with wood floors how about a sheepskin rug for each of your doggies? Black or white. One last detail. A lower table for your side lamps would be good: At sofa arm or seat height. Coffee table could work in corner between window and new sofa position. Btw: I liked the suggestion to replace the cupboard doors above the fish tank with full-height ones. In some kitchen shops you can find ready-painted, wooden, panel doors that might fit. It's a long shot but you could be lucky. It would brighten up the corner if you got a light colour.

Hello Cork2015, Looking like a very tidy home... I like the black on brick and its lovely to have a difference in texture that the brick offers, rather than all render which would not be as appealing I feel.....What about considering painting the window sill on the ground level black, this will blend nicely with the sliding doors.. The eye is not drawn to it either... Then you might want to add some plants in large pots... 2 square metal planters with something nice in could be lovely either side of the sliding doors.. possibly two pots under the window too... They work in a variety of settings not just period homes.. Have a look at these ideas.. : )) A line along the aggregate could be lovely... 2 more either side of the sliding doors and two under the window... Lovely and easy! 2 either side of the front door down the side... (if less light they could be artificial there)

Hi Sinead, though I've not had firsthand experience, I've heard acrylic is a very hard-wearing material for kitchens. I have never seen acrylic in wood effect though - I'd be curious to know more if anyone else has it. I found [this article[(https://www.houzz.ie/magazine/kitchen-planning-how-to-choose-the-perfect-kitchen-cupboards-stsetivw-vs~56113438) on how to choose the perfect kitchen cabinets to be very useful, it weighs up the pros and cons of different materials.
