This was several years ago, however I do believe that the window seat was 8 foot long and we used 2-4' cushions. Hope this helps!

Thanks for that groveraxle - we might be changing the sofa in that room so I could possibly pick a different colour sofa next time so it's not so inline with the walls. That said I love how vibrant the mural is - does the brown wall colour make it look dull? Spoke with DH and there is no way he will go for the blue.

I understand what you want to do, so here's my suggestion, if it fits.....I'd move the couch under the mirror. Move table to the center of the kitchen, like an island. Sounds like it's two adults and two toddlers, so I'd definitely remove two of those chairs. Are your kids in high-chairs, if so move the other two chairs out too. Basically you want four chairs not six. Move them to a garage, basement or another room. Put the chairs around two or three sides of the table. I'd leave the side near the stove and washing machine(?) open. TV would mount to the right of the back door. See if that would work. Either way, it's going to be a tight space. Post pics please.

Hi, I am amazed by some of the advice I have read on here so I hope you can share your wisdom on our living room. We're mid renovation and here we are so far: I would love to have balance on the fireplace wall. Any ideas? I have thought about a large piece of art to the left of the chimney but the TV also will go to the left. (I'd rather keep TV away from chimney breast). How would you balance the window dressings also? I like the idea of very high sheers but will that work and from wall to wall or just over the windows? The room is 6.1 metres x 5.4 metres. It's North facing so this is as bright as it gets! We're in the process of picking a fireplace too. How would you bring balance to the room?

As you say, the position of the door is splitting the room in half. We had a similar issue and had the door moved to one end. It was a big enough job but worth it. We did this when renovating the house. Then we zoned the room. One end a study and the other end sitting and TV. We also changed the hearth to a lighter colour. We considered taking the fireplace away as we don’t use it but retained it in the end. I would paint the room the same colour as the feature wall is emphasising the narrowness. I would change the curtains to a simple neutral linen and remove the blinds as they are killing the light in the room. To improve privacy, would hedging be an option? Put a large mirror over the mantle and use good sized rugs to zone the area. I think I would try putting the TV on the opposite side and have the window end as a sitting/reading area. The darker side of the room would benefit from side tables with lamps.
