After being vacant for years, this property needed extensive repairs and system updates to accommodate the young family who would be making it their home. The existing mid-century modern architecture drove the design, and finding ways to open up the floorplan towards the sweeping views of the boulevard was a priority. Custom white oak cabinetry was created for several spaces, and new architectural details were added throughout the interior. Now brought back to its former glory, this home is a fun, modern, sun-lit place to be. To see the "before" images, visit our website. Interior Design by Tyler Karu. Architecture by Kevin Browne. Our firm worked closely with the Junior League of Miami to raise funds for the women and children who benefit from the Junior League’s programming and scholarships. A group of designers participated in the project of renovating the main house as well as the cottages. We felt in love with the Sausage Tree Cottage Kitchen and instead of demolishing the old kitchen we wanted to preserve the actual beauty and bring the old space back to it is glamour. The St Charles cabinets were of great inspiration for us. We strongly believe in history preservation.

We were inspired by our clients collection of beautiful dinnerware and serve ware which were gorgeous shades of blues.
We kept the finishes classic like the Shaker door style and the classic blue accent color but we added lovely details such as the rope crown molding and the textural tile back-splash.

This navy and gold mid-century style kitchen was remodeled by Brittany of BrittanyMakes. She expanded her wall to make a more open space, and used Blinds.com's Signature Roman Shades in Camden Dark Storm to match the mid-century style for her windows.

When selling your home, It can be a mistake to rip out an original kitchen or bathroom if it is in good condition, has all the mod cons people expect and can showcase the potential for future adaptation or renovations. This kitchen had been previously updated in the 1970s - as in wood grain bench tops and brown wall tiles - but had great storage, and the potential for further floor space by closing off two of the four doors into the room. So instead of demolishing and starting over, extra space was created for a dishwasher and open shelving for vintage kitchenalia to be displayed, new "retro" wall tiles, a vintage double sink, tapware, new bench tops and handles were added to bring back that cheery 1950s feel, while also improving function.
Result? A kitchen that sold the house to some young mid century enthusiasts!
Simply Home Decorating
The new owners of this 1974 Post and Beam home originally contacted us for help furnishing their main floor living spaces. But it wasn’t long before these delightfully open minded clients agreed to a much larger project, including a full kitchen renovation. They were looking to personalize their “forever home,” a place where they looked forward to spending time together entertaining friends and family.
In a bold move, we proposed teal cabinetry that tied in beautifully with their ocean and mountain views and suggested covering the original cedar plank ceilings with white shiplap to allow for improved lighting in the ceilings. We also added a full height panelled wall creating a proper front entrance and closing off part of the kitchen while still keeping the space open for entertaining. Finally, we curated a selection of custom designed wood and upholstered furniture for their open concept living spaces and moody home theatre room beyond.
This project is a Top 5 Finalist for Western Living Magazine's 2021 Home of the Year.

This was a total gut and remodel of an early 1900's bungalow. The homeowners are empty nesters looking to make the most of the space in their 840 square foot home. The original bath still had no shower, and the kitchen hadn't been updated in fifty years. Kitcheart designed and supplied the kitchen and bath cabinetry to suit the homeowner's mid-century and craftsman style. Hickory cabinetry was custom stained with a paint wash that matched their Sherwin Williams color pick, "Favorite Jeans." Family dishes are hidden behind antique mirrored doors with custom X mullions. They chose Thermador appliances and a farm sink to complete the look and functionality. In their master bathroom, the vanity cabinet was customized to hold the items she uses, including a favorite hair dryer. A last-minute addition to the kitchen was the cabinet extension under their flatscreen TV to keep all the components and wires hidden from view while providing additional counter space. The breakfast bar makes a quick meal more comfortable.
