Pocket Door or Single French Door to Office

I have a feeling I will be posting many more questions, but this one is about the entrance door (internal) to our home office. The plans have a pocket door, but I'm considering a single French door. This will be an office for us, but could also be a formal living room. I like the idea of a pocket door, as it's a craftsman house, but perhaps it would be nice to do the French door as something more formal. Thoughts and opinions?

Sliding door/ divider ideas
Comments (29)With a sliding door, you can have each side different to match the style of the room it faces. Here are some ideas that, believe it or not, are done with sharpies on flat surfaces. I can envision a "fireplace" on the lounge side. On the dining room side, you could do the "double door" look, by putting half on the door, and half on the wall next to the door. So when the door is closed, it looks like a pair of doors, but when the door is slid open it looks like only one door (but it's the wall!) I added the 3rd picture just because I think it's so cool. Believe me this is an old house and the refurb is on the way so as they say" look past what's there now" it's connected to a corridor and in front of it is the front if the house with porch and large windows. I would love to make this a front to back look but it is below a road at the back and just looks into a yard! The views are magnificent at the front as we over look the sea ! I'm so stool on ideas. Comments (9)Thanks Judy. I know oak doors and skirting boards will still have to be cleaned but I think there is a bit of leeway with dusting them - dust doesn't show quite so quickly! My windows havnt been finalised yet at all so I have plenty time, i just don't want to feel like im in a timber showroom with oak window frames, skirting, doors and floors when in my living room plus when standing in the hallway there will be the stairs (paint and oak steps), banisters, handrails, and the skirting and surrounds of four doorways. Comments (4)A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!...See More
