dark stairway how do we improve

Hi we have a very dark staircase north facing - any ideas how we can improve ? Many thanks for any ideas ?

So you have a big window on the landing and another at the top of the stairs, plenty of light coming in. A lighter coloured carpet would help as would changing those heavy curtains for light coloured Roman blinds to tie in with the new carpet, perhaps with a pattern.
Your woodwork is already light but you could also paint the bannister too.Keeping the windows clean will also maximise the light.
What kind of lighting do you currently have over the stairs?

We have a very plain light at the top of the stairs hallway but none over the stairs

I would pick my flooring first. Then I would paint the walls. Then have a look at the room and see how you like it before you paint the cupboards or the brick. Do it in steps because I think your brick could look quite nice and I like your cupboards the way they are. Just don't jump too fast painting things that you can't reverse. It may be that you will still want to paint the brick and cupboards but better to see how things look before you do. You have a lovely space !

Flowers in those flower boxes would be a good start, and then I'd tear out the conctrete or whatever the surface is next to the house and extend the driveway further out, closer to the camera, to make up for lost driveway space. The down spout must be removed from he driveway. The steps up to the house seem to be a confused assembly of different materials and should be reformed into a cohesive entry stairway, with plantings flanking it, or pots of greenery/flowers on it. The garage seems to be a different color from the house and if that is the came, I would change it echo the colors of the house. In the foreground of the photo is an opportunity for some beautiful landscaping. You have your work cut out for you, but nothing that you couldn't do over the next 3 months!

What about 6 massive pots? Two one either side of the bay windows and one on either side of the front door. (I too have a massive gray gravel drive way. Trying to plant through the gravel brings on a whole other set of challenges. Pots are just more practical, for me anyway.) I love those trees in the lawn area.:) And the green trim. Also, how would that bright area around the front door look painted a shade a bit closer to the color of the brick and stone areas?

Simply from a safety point of view I think you should investigate the possibility of adding lighting to your stairs either low level or overhead on the landing. Each step can be illuminated through static or motion sensor lights.

I wood do as Betty Boo and have an electrician to install Philip hue strip upstairs. You can chains color to the mood your in. I have dine it sand it’s a nem home. We bought lamps and add to it on top of a shelving and other places. Perfect
