Coat stand and hallway decor

Got this coat stand this week. It's in the corner so there's space for my buggy. But I think something doesn't look right (I think it's the top shelf part) I went for this one thinking I can add baskets on top of decor but I think because it slightly blocks the window it looks off.Thinking of getting one without the top shelf part...thoughts?Also any tips on what can go on the wall - very bare at the moment. I was thinking gallery wall or big clock. Pictures below - Thanks

It definitely looks better placed centrally between the windows and the stairs, leaving a space for your buggy to go beside the window. Have you tried putting some baskets on the top shelf? Hopefully it’ll look fine and you won’t need to go to the bother of replacing it.
If you still think you’d like to add something to fill the wall space perhaps a round oak mirror might be useful.

Hi Marie. It's difficult to tell how wide the room is but a round table could work at the foot of the stairs. Dress with a large bowl and plants/flowers etc. you could also try hanging 3 chandeliers or pendants down the hall. I would also have either 2 matching consoles opposite each other by the front door or keep your existing and add some seating opposite to create symmetry. I think if you were to dress the console with bigger items it would stand out more ie ginger jars on the bottom shelf, classic urns, plants etc on the top. Once you've got the basics done and budget permits, you can add further floor standing decorative pieces, a small chair etc. I think you definitely need some tall art by the front door though or even mirrors if you're not keen to add art

It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. I love the cabin in the woods, its a intimate setting where you are drawn to the outside whilst keeping snug indoors. The use of fabrics sets it apart from the usual cold designs of other modern rooms. The attention detail in the selection of furniture pieces keeps it modern yet functional.

Thanks for your advice Betty boo - added some baskets too. I know eventually I won't have the buggy in hallway (even thought that's for a while) then I can put it centrally with the baskets I guess

I think that looks fine and as you say you won’t have the buggy forever but on a practical note and as your family grows in size if not in number you’ll have space to buy a larger unit perhaps incorporating some bench seating.

Your coatstand and position is a good practical choice. I just think looking at it that you would have more light if there weren't so many coats and jackets on it. Try taking a few away and see if that improves the light.
