Entrance / hallway

Any tips for decorating this area. The first photos are taken standing at front door and the last is at bottom of stairs looking back at front door. Looking towards stairway the entrance to the kitchen living area is on my left. Our idea is to use a large light coloured travertine tile in the kitchen and continue it out into this area. For the walls we are going to go an off white and walnut for the stairs. Any opinios / tips? This is new build in a modern style.
