Bungalow extension - floorplan ideas please!
Hi all,
First time using Houzz. We're in the process of moving to our new home and straight away we know we want to renovate. Keen to get thoughts from the community!
Our Vision:
- Extend the ground floor into the garden
- Add a first floor with 1-2 bedrooms
Considerations:
- Garden: Ample space for extension
- First Floor: No dormers at the front due to planning restrictions, but no limitations at the back
Preferences:
- A larger master bedroom with ample wardrobe space and an en suite
- Home office/study space
We’re open to ideas for the best bungalow conversion. Looking forward to your suggestions!

Comments (10)You could create an ensuite by borrowing space from the second bedroom, accessing it from the master. I would create one large luxury family bathroom by joining the current bathroom and the adjoining room into one. If you don't want to lose a room, you could swap the purpose of the two rooms, creating a medium sized bathroom and a small box room/study (expensive for some benefit). Lastly, if you really want to maintain the number of rooms but gain a bigger bathroom, you could move the family bathroom to the bottom, right-hand room, if plumbing allows. You would get your extra room and depending on what you decide on ( size/style/final use etc), most can be built under permitted development rules, so no planning permission would be required. We build ours with Structurally Insulated Panels (SIP) panels, so they are quick to erect, cheap to heat and last forever. Comments (6)What direction is it facing? that will have a huge bearing on the layout. I also would question the large Living area in addition to the family room. 1700 is perfectly adequate for a bathroom but another 100mm in width would be better....See MoreBen Lyon

3 months agoAlternatively don’t build outwards at the back built sideways, add a new garage and link the property to the existing garage and turn that into accomodation
