Insulated quiet flooring that's not carpet?

Can anyone recommend flooring or underlay that would work under laminate or vinyl click tiles/LVT (not sure which we are fitting yet) that is as quiet as carpet would be for flats??
I don't want carpet everywhere as some is also living space but want to consider the people above and below as have flats on all levels (rentals).
Is there some sort of acoustic underlay or something else I can use?

Sheet vinyl has a cushion affect and it warm underfoot too. Forget the vinyl of old, modern vinyl is hardwearing and non slip. I’ve just had it laid in my bathroom and one of the bedrooms. Easy to clean too. Really like it.

Hi Tani. i’m not sure i’d use laminate. From what I’ve seen LVT is allowed in flats and you can get an acoustic underlay

Forgot to say we have a bedroom on the 2nd floor which was fitted with LVT a couple of years ago and can't hear a thing

Yes I very much doubt we would bother going for a laminate anyway as much harder to replace if damage compared to lvt 🤣 Now that we've had the latter, I love it!

The trim in your rooms is outstanding. To "tie the rooms together", the one thing I would do is install chair rail the same color as the existing trim. The horizontal lines of chair rail will move the eye around the room and into the next room creating a flow. Chair rail is relatively inexpensive, easy to install and would be wonderful compliment to your existing beautiful trim.

Window shopping and lots of online browsing.! .haven't purchased anything yet!. Just getting house back in order after painting! I have put back the red/winey curtains that I previously had up...convinces me more to go with a neutral colour. The walls are rich Taupe but with a slight grey hue off them so I think the bottom left above actually might work. I have bedding very similar so I took them out and held up and think it would look very nice. Purple isn't a theme in my house (although I do have one bedroom painted purple/lilac) My sitting room is white red black and silver and living/kitchen room is tan and red. I want a rug that wont show up the dirt that much...I live in the country side and have lots of dirty feet coming in so I cant go for any rug that is too light in colour

OK then I think you might have to work asymmetrically. Instead of many cupboard doors, over your boiler, have one door placed over it with a push in push out system to open it. This will create a smooth "wall" - paint this and the wall above the brick area cream and the brick below grey.I would then change the cabinet on the other side so that you use cream with a grey counter and even grey shelves...Could this work better?More photos would certainly help? Where is your chalet?

Hello egreevy, Okay, yes I see, it's a difficulty but maybe not impossible... Just whether you want to try to find out more about this.. Taking windows out to paint is a bigger job but it may still be possible.. ... So for the immediate.. Paint the front door (just the door) it might give a nice finish to have the side windows white.. Then you have a bit of contrast like your image above.. and add window boxes with lovely foliage or buxus.. it will work with the green you already have... I couldn't see as my screen was dimmed.. I think leaving all the ivy colour you have at present would be really nice.. (hence my suggestion of more green!! Also I wouldn't paint the pebble dash, to me it looks absolutely fine on the house itself.. Maybe the small boundary wall at the front and a bit of the garage.. Also a flat box hedge coming over the top of the boundary wall could be nice too.. It will be lovely and green.. : ) )

thanks, Sonia. Yes our apt has had it put in but the issue for rentals is if it gets ripped ie we have a dining room one that looks like herringbone but the owners hid a massive rip in with a rug they left us, sigh. So we either have to replace the whole thing or leave it covered.

It's fine for a bathroom and smaller room but I'm thinking LVT for the living /kitchen spaces would be repairable as I can lift up the planks easier and they are more durable.

You know what holiday lets can be like, haha.

p.s we did a similar vinyl in our last bathroom floor and I loved it! they make some nice ones these days!

i’ve seen a couple of your posts and am so curious to know what you’re doing! I know the Europe trip got cancelled and then the UK one got scuppered for sad reasons but have you relocated again??

Ha ha, yes Europe is on hold for now due to elderly in law. It's fine. You can only do so much van life before you get a bit bored 😂

We did the UK for 1.5years and let our old house (the one we renovated on here!) as a holiday let.

Sold in December then renovated my parents rental which just sold while we found somewhere else.....

And now we are in St annes on Sea, near the sea front and bought a big edwardian house which has 4 flats in and renovating all of them 🤣🤣😱😱😱

Bottom one is our own which is the post I did about changing the layout and making the back into a kitchen diner (not used to long houses!)

And then we have 3 other flats we were just going to tart up and let out but you know me, I'm now changing floor plans and knocking down walls and renovating the whole thing 🙊 Someone needs to stop me, LOL.

So for now we will live on the GF and have 3 holiday lets until they drive me mad and we will end up renting them all out 🤣

Everytime I think I've nailed the dilemmas of room layouts and decor... I end up with something new and I have to start again 😔

Oh wow, you’ve been busy! Exciting times, 4 to renovate in one go?! That’s quite a lot of work lol! i can’t even manage one! i’ve been deliberating on curtains/cushions for one room for nearly 2 weeks!

The place sounds lovely by the sea, you were in Lancs before by the sea weren’t you? Maybe you shoud have had the top floor, hopefully quieter?! Wishing you the best of luck with it anyway, fun but stress inducing lol

He he, yes totally stress inducing! I got lost with choosing a blinking mirror for the bathroom. I mean seriously! 🙄 I get decision fatigue as scared of making the wrong choice and hating it or wasting money 😂

If I was rich I don't think I would be so indecisive 🤣🤑
- yes still in Lancs but moved up the coast and it's a bit nicer this way. Some v grand buildings indeed and all huge! It has planning to convert back into a large house but we are but two of us (plus the guinea pigs I Foster) so seems sensible having lets I can manage from home I guess.
The top flat is lovely but has no garden and ours is the whole ground floor so is quite large. Not as big as our last house of course but we just need to try and make the space work for our business and lifestyle and rescue animals 😂

We have a brick outbuilding so that will get converted at some point into my office and piggy room 😁

Think there is always a compromise wherever we go!

Ps have you posted your curtin dilemma on here??

I can imagine, that’s a huge undertaking! I’d be the same, photoshop helps though! I’d probably be worse if i was rich, you’d have so much more choice!!

Well it sounds amazing plus you’ll have income from the lets. You don’t need a huge amount of space for the 2 of you, just good storage! When you say piggy room, will that have piggies in?!

No, i haven’t posted on here, can’t inflict that on anyone else! I found fabrics but hand printed so cost a lot anyway and also not the standard width meaning would need double width plus minimum order requirements so back to the drawing board lol

Houzz got hacked a few years ago and many of our email addresses were stolen. It resulted in me constantly getting spam emails. Thank you Houzz!

Glad not just me then 🙈

I feel awful that people might think I'm spamming them!! Worse thing is that my account just got froze with no notification or warning. If I'd been told, I could have explained it was hacked and just changed my password but it just kept saying on login that it no longer supports Facebook login so presumed that was the reason! 🙄

So much of this goes on on Facebook. The hacker sends messages to your friends via Messenger or fb and if they answer they get hacked too. So annoying. Annoying that fb has frozen your account. Try sending fb a message and hopefully they will sort it out.

@Sonia, oh sorry I meant Houzz froze my account! 🙄 With no warning as someone was sending messages from it. The FB issue was just that they said you can no longer login via FB as that's how I must have originally set up the account. But my login issue wasn't anything to do with that - it was just that they froze my account 🤣 So i was going around in circles for ages with it so confused 🙈
