Kitchen Diner seating area advice

Hi all, I'd like an opinion on decor.
I have attached a picture of the space I have. This is part of an open plan kitchen diner (we have a separate living room).
I am planning to make a seating space here (I have about 180cm in width). I'd love to get some ideas on what I can do, I'm looking at sofas but not convinced, I've looked at floor beds/indoor swings but im in a dilemma, I'd be grateful for any ideas.

I was reading this magazine this week and loved the cover pic!

i’m not sure it’s practical though?!

Why are you against a sofa? Is it because there’s presumably not enough space for a table, lamp etc?

Could you add more photos of the space to get an idea of style, space etc

Would you consider armchairs in the space perhaps with a side table and a floorlamp or table lamp to add a soft layer of lighting. What other colours are in the room that could be implemented into this area?

To begin designing a kitchen you draw the entire space to scale on a computer or on paper. Then place your appliances sink table chairs etc on the floor plan. You do this to understand if your ideas can even work the way you envision them. I would recommend using a kitchen designer. Working by yourselves, the kitchen design would be limited by your experience and abilities, and starting the process in the wrong order does not bode well. After the kitchen is designed then have several contractors come to give you bids and their input. This will save their time and make the bids lower and more accurate. After you have potential floor plans and have thought things through, this is when advice from Houzzers can be helpful. When the job is not completely thought out advice on Houzz can be dangerous. You will be encouraged to make decisions also not thought out and coments will seem valid no matter who is making them.

Sounds like you have the opportunity to have a "formal" living room and a family room! Do you have children? If so, a "formal" living room allows you create a space purely for grown-ups. I keep putting formal in quotes because the space can be as formal or relaxed as you want it to be. You can add built-ins to create a library/office feel, or make it a movie screening lounge. If you entertain a lot, a beautiful bar or bar cart is a great vintage throwback for spaces like yours. Into music? This space would be awesome for setting up a record player and displaying albums. The possibilities are endless! Do you mind sharing pictures of the space in question? And maybe sharing a little more about how you/ your family like to spend your free time? Would love to give you some more specific suggestions if you'd like!

Hi - its such a big and important project, i really think you need to sit down with a good kitchen designer and fully tease out your requirements and then look at every possible layout option. by sitting down with someone, they will draw each possible layout to scale in front of you and that way you will be able to see the pros and cons of each design. it makes decision making much easier best of luck with the project Barry

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

Minnie, thank you. That does look lovely, I love swings but we can't have that hanging from the ceiling. And the standing swings I have seen all feel like outdoor ones. I will take a pic of the wider space, but it is mainly a fairly large kitchen with dark blue units, white countertops and white tiled flooring that you see in the picture. We have an island with bar stools, 2 blue and 2 yellow. And a wood coloured dining table on the other side of the room. This particular area is next to the Patio doors leading to the garden. I'm looking to create a small cozy area here for sitting down when someone is cooking or watching kids play (I have a play mat and a few toys set up in front of the area too)

The living house, thank you. I have thought about arm chairs but I want them to be a two seater atleast so it's easy to cuddle up with my kids. I have blue amd yellow colours in the kitchen. Blue kitchen and blue and yellow bar stools.

How about a snuggler chair in a colour to go the rest of the room, say in a lovely coral? Then add a little coffee or side table and a lamp. I’ve added a yellow one in case coral is not an option!
