Two living areas side by side?!

I have a long and relatively narrow, open kitchen dining area. The living room opens off the dining area (like an 'L') We will however be putting doors in to separate the two. I want to move the dining table into the kitchen because there is alot of unused floor space in the kitchen currently. We contemplated putting an island in there but we didn't want a tall 'block' in the kitchen and a table near it in the dining area. If we move the table into the kitchen, the dining area would be free to have some seating which I like the idea of but I am not sure if this would look strange because the sitting room is off this room, so there would be two seating areas side by side. Anyone any experience of this or have any advice?

Sounds like you have the opportunity to have a "formal" living room and a family room! Do you have children? If so, a "formal" living room allows you create a space purely for grown-ups.

I keep putting formal in quotes because the space can be as formal or relaxed as you want it to be. You can add built-ins to create a library/office feel, or make it a movie screening lounge. If you entertain a lot, a beautiful bar or bar cart is a great vintage throwback for spaces like yours. Into music? This space would be awesome for setting up a record player and displaying albums. The possibilities are endless!

Do you mind sharing pictures of the space in question? And maybe sharing a little more about how you/ your family like to spend your free time? Would love to give you some more specific suggestions if you'd like!

not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!
