Carpet for hall?

Can anyone recommend a carpet for a hall, stairs and landing please? Classic 1930’s semi, it has oak strip flooring that’s draughty but I don’t want to replace or damage it. Currently partly covered by rug. Husband wants fitted carpet to make the house warmer but there’s no porch so I’m concerned about muddy feet. South facing so sometimes sunny. Dado rail with lincrusta below so traditional in style. I love the look of sisal etc but appears to be difficult to clean. Any ideas?

I don't have any stairs in my bungalow, but I think wood or laminate flooring in the hallway is more practical than carpet. Have a coir mat by the front door to trap dirt.

Hi,

If it is sisal you like, there is an easy clean sisal boucle option, where the sisal fibres are soaked in a water-based stain inhibitor prior to being woven. This gives much more effective protection than a stain inhibitor sprayed on top of the finished product, so perfect for entrances or heavier traffic areas.

Alternatively, there are also many sisal-like products on the market now, which give the appearance of natural flooring whilst still being hardwearing and comparatively very easy to clean and maintain. You can even use a diluted 10% bleach solution on these if necessary, making them popular in busy households.

I love colors and most of your plan sounds fun and great but...that paint color looks very purplish and i would say maybe go lighter, more grey tone. Be cautious.

That is true alright, though even with a patterned carpet they usually keep a mat for people to wipe their feet on by the door, or if people like to remove boots or shoes when entering ( not that common here) but great idea. The trouble with the patterned carpet was if anything fell on the floor you could hardly find it !!

Sorry, I'm confused. You have a landing that is attached, some how, to laminate flooring somewhere. Stairs will be carpeted...but not sure how stairs tie in to the laminate. Totally lost. You have stairs that will have carpet. They are attached to the landing...that is some how attached to flooring with laminate. There might be stairs involved, there might not be. At this point, without photos or blue prints or a full, clear statement describing the whole thing, we won't be able to help. What is the flooring 'upstairs'? Putting carpet on stairs, willy-nilly, with NO connection to "other areas of carpet" is quite odd. Many people who use carpet will often "carpet the stairs" and then carpet all of the area "upstairs" to match the stairs. This is why they put carpet on the stairs in the first place...it matches the "upstairs". Using carpets on stairs, then on a landing use laminate, and then continue carpet on stairs once again is very, very odd. Ending the carpet without continuing with it (ie. upstairs is another flooring type entirely) is another "odd thing to do". In essence, we will need more precise description of what is going on here.
