HELP which direction should I have Herringbone Flooring laid ??

Flooring being put down Monday. Any advise on which direction.

Focal point of open plan living room is fire place. Settee is showing where it is placed in room??

Widow light shown in picture which is neither over sunny or shaded in summer.

It should be laid in the direction of floor when you enter room - parallel to the longest wall. Hello the days are brightening up by now and I'm sure the room is looking less drab for it. However I think furniture rearranging will work wonders. You seem to have nice low window sills: show them off. If the sofa goes to the left between window and built-in unit you'll have a view out to the garden and more light in the room. Equally: can you fit the piano between the radiator and the double doors? Again: more light through the window. Low sills are a god-send, and so many of us are stuck with high ones. The room will feel more spacious with a good view to outdoors. The armchairs then: one to the left of the fireplace and one between the other window and piano. TV then between the two windows. (No shine on the screen) Does that fit maybe? Or do you need all five seats facing the TV? I rather like those stripy cushions. Can you find a striped wallpaper in matching colors and with an irregular pattern repeat for your accent wall? if going with wood floors how about a sheepskin rug for each of your doggies? Black or white. One last detail. A lower table for your side lamps would be good: At sofa arm or seat height. Coffee table could work in corner between window and new sofa position. Btw: I liked the suggestion to replace the cupboard doors above the fish tank with full-height ones. In some kitchen shops you can find ready-painted, wooden, panel doors that might fit. It's a long shot but you could be lucky. It would brighten up the corner if you got a light colour.

I feel in a situation like this, I would not add windows with no view that would probably end up with some type of coverings a great deal of the time. My situation would be use of mirrors to reflect available light back into room. Mirror could be styled to look like Windows etc. we have a similar situation in our kitchen, and we mirrored over the sink, and created two faux windows using mirror and drapery side pannels. The effect works great, and when you add the right lighting the effect is wonderful, day and night. Take a good look and visualize day and night views creating with mirrors designed into a "today" style and look.

Sorry, yes, I didn't explain very well, did I... I meant that as your room seems to be quite light, floor included, a dark grey that matches the bird on your wallpaper would give you that wow factor (pic1 below). You could then work on the layering textures within the same colour palette too with the rest of your accessories (rugs, mirrors etc). Or if you're not too keen on greys, pick out one of the other colours if you prefer- you have a good selection of pink, blue, green or yellow. As long as you match the exact shade you can't go wrong, in my humble opinion. I've attached a few pics below to show you what I mean xx

I am getting a herringbone floor laid and I would love some advice. Question 1, which direction to lay arrow pattern, pointing towards window or towards left wall where I will have my upright piano as the focal point of this small room? The width wall to wall is 3.01m the depth to windows is 3.25m. Question 2, should I run a “frame” of planks on the wall sides/all sides of the room or let the pattern run in under the skirting board? I thought a frame edging might make the room look smaller? Question 3, How to transition from the dining room acacia wood floor to the new oak floor? I currently have option of a saddle board between the two which would be level to both floors or an oak T-profile to sit between the two which would give a very small ramp. Thinking of painting/staining the transition black due to the colour difference between the floors. Any advice please?
