I'd hold off painting your table. Do all your painting first. I'm suggesting this because I think it helps to balance the room out to have some of that wood tone on the other side. A compromise would be to leave the top alone and paint everything else. Also. Get rid on any red accents, de-clutter the counter (so you can see your new backsplash and also get some pretty dishes in the blue/green color and put them in the cabinet with the glass doors. Also get new dish towels to hang on oven door handle. Please post some pics when you get done-excited!

Some great advice there! I guess I'm trying to create a comfortable elegant feel/mood to the room. It is a child-free house, so I don't have to worry about little hands marking the fabric, but I do take the point on board - will consider darker fabrics. I do like the eames style chairs, and I will look into them in more detail, although I think I prefer the idea of a soft seat, rather than a hard one. One of my main concerns was in relation to the style/finish of the chair legs.....I love the legs on the table, so I want a chair that will complement the table. Is there any particular style of chair leg I should avoid? Or finish (wooden leg v chrome leg)? Karen: I'd be interested to see which chair you went for! A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

Hi all, I'm looking for some inspiration for this space in kitchen. My husband likes the idea of having two low comfy chairs and a small table for coffee/breakfast in the morning, like how I have set up in photo no.1. I like this idea and could add a few shelves above to fill out but then as you can see from photo no.2, this leads to a huge amount of unused space in the middle of the room! Anyone any ideas? Should we try a bar with bar stools instead to try and utilise the space better? I like the idea of a bar too but I need to be careful of kitchen door that it has enough space to open and that walkway to dining room and back door are clear. In the show house, the designer but a kitchen table and chairs here and the back room was a tv room but we are using back room as a big dining room with big table hence this weird space in kitchen to fill. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
