Help with window frame colours? All over the place!

Help? We are midway through an extension on a 1930s semi (side and loft) and can’t work out what window frames to get.

We currently have the old white pvc ones on the front of the house and anthracite aluminium at the back. We won’t change the back as it’s relatively new but I don’t really want anthracite at the front as i’m not wild about it.

The side extension is pretty modern looking so I’m thinking black aluminium with matching soffits etc…but then we will have frames in three different colours...? We will eventually replace the front windows too so? all thoughts welcome?? Drawn in black below…

I would not be so concerned about the window colour between front and back but having different colours and types on the front will jar. I have not done this myself but I believe you can paint uPVC window frames. Seek proper advice before proceeding though. Best of luck with your renovation.

We have had almost all our "mahogany" UPVC windows and doors replaced with Aluclad windows in RAL 7044. This is an on going project and we still have a couple of the old windows which will eventually be replaced. I have painted these in a colour matched paint by Valspar. I washed the frames, applied two coats of primer/ undercoat and two coats of exterior wood/metal paint. I have also painted the front door. I am very pleased with the results. I just need the UPVC windows and front door to last a year or two longer before I am able replace them. Might be worth a try.

I love dark walls and I think your hall with the shiny floors and the right finish on the wall make it special. You already have the wrought iron, which definitely dictates a certain look. I hesitate to recommend a specific color from my monitor, but look at the BM colors in the 1037’s through the 1078’s and see if there is something there which looks good with the tile.

Thanks for that groveraxle - we might be changing the sofa in that room so I could possibly pick a different colour sofa next time so it's not so inline with the walls. That said I love how vibrant the mural is - does the brown wall colour make it look dull? Spoke with DH and there is no way he will go for the blue.

Hi snan - to address your questions: 1 - yes, the lamps work very well. With regard to the height of the larger lamps: do you know how high they would be? If the bottom of the lampshade is even with the top of the pillows that should work. If they are taller than that I think you will be okay with the smaller lamps. Look back again at some of the pictures above to see what I mean. The thing that will look odd would be if the top of the lamps were taller than your headboard. The idea is that when you are in bed reading a book that you want the light to be able to reflect down. As far as the lampshade size goes on the smaller lamps I'm thinking the shorter ones since they don't seem to drop down as far as the larger ones. 2 & 3-Definitely chair by the mirrored bedside locker with one white locker on the other side. Without question. The chair to the left of the bed gave the room life. Use the extra white one in a closet or another room. You don't want to overcrowd your room when you are going for a tranquil setting. 4-Absolutely okay to have bedside tables that don't match and look good in the room. Whether or not you like that is a personal preference though. I would only put the mirrored one next to the bed though if you have the chair next to it. It's how they play off each other that makes it work. If you don't keep the chair next to the bed then I would use both white tables beside the bed. It is also fine that the pictures are off-centre to the wall as long as they are centered to the bed. :)

Hi. I'm not that keen on the paper with the rest of the room, it doesn't look bad at all but it doesn't look stunning either imo. Everything else looks to be more of a greige? I'd look at the same paper in truffle, sable, dark linen or even the pewter may work ( hard to tell colours on screen so would get samples of all!). I agree with the others, would go for plain bed linen and add pattern in cushions and/ or throw. It looks as if a chalk pink would work best with the greige. Maybe a chalky white for the remaining furniture. You could also break up the window ŵall by adding a trim and maybe Pom poms to the bottom of the blind. A little antique gold for accessories, lights etc would also work well.

I agree with siobhan - go for all the same colour at the front (black) even if it is different from the back.We’re going through the same decision at the mo and not wanting to repeat anthracite at the front.
Have you got any pics of your aluminium windows OP and Mrs P? Wondering if they’re suitable for a bog standard 60’s house. They always seem to be shown on homes on which huge building projects have been undertaken and so are super sleek and modern.
