Wood filler on architrave

Hi,

ive been filling in screw holes with wood filler which just looks horrendous. ive tried all colours and brands but they stand out.

has anyone tried paint and grain? or tried to paint just that area of the architrave? its pine wood. thanks

Have no idea why you are restricted to white doors but we live in a house where all the doors come off the hall and we put in doors with checked glass everywhere to get natural light into the hall and also break up the row of nothing but doors i have pale grey walls but I painted all those doors dark gray and hung very colorful art work down that hall it looks sort of like a gallery and not sterile at all. And yes the doors are on all the doorways including the bathroom you can see nothing through them.

Hi, I have pine wood stairs, skirting, doors and architrave and I'm looking for some nice ideas to brighten it all up without painting the architrave , skirting and doors. That would be too much of a big job. I thought maybe cream for the walls but I'd like some bolder ideas and maybe the same cream on the instep of the stairs. Don't really know how to proceed. I'd like to show off the pine to its best. Also, it's a 3 bed bungalow so not a big mansion place, should fit the style of the house. I like a bit of black too and colour. What about pictures? Are they a bad idea? Thank you

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. What colour to paint or varnish door saddles?

We just bought a bungalow and are doing some redecorating before we move in. It is an old house with a narrow hallway and small rooms so we want to keep it as light and airy feeling as possible. We are putting in new doors, architrave, skirting, etc. and painting these white. However all of the windows (which we aren't changing as they are quite new) are a dark wood - almost a walnut colour. My question is what colour should I varnish the door saddles? I would prefer to varnish rather than paint these, but don't want to go too dark. How many wood colours is ok in a house, e.g. should we varnish the saddles to an oak colour and stick with this for the furniture? Any advice appreciated!
