Hallway help - new interior doors

Hi - first time poster so hi! I want to change the doors in my hall. I like plain doors and v plain architrave - no lumps or bumps but I'm starting to wimp out a bit as I've been googling the hell out of it but most of the images I find are traditional architraves. I live in a bungalow and all the doors in the house come off the hall so I am restricted to white doors. I like this door http://www.dorasdist.com/contract-range.html - the one at the bottom called Minotaur. I'm also getting a new walnut (laminate) flooring in the hall.

Can anyone comfort me that the hall wont look sterile and officey?!

Have no idea why you are restricted to white doors but we live in a house where all the doors come off the hall and we put in doors with checked glass everywhere to get natural light into the hall and also break up the row of nothing but doors i have pale grey walls but I painted all those doors dark gray and hung very colorful art work down that hall it looks sort of like a gallery and not sterile at all. And yes the doors are on all the doorways including the bathroom you can see nothing through them.

Thanks Patricia - I say white doors as opposed to wood doors but I colour is an option that I hadn't considered. I like the idea of glass in the doors too to break it up. We have 8 doors coming off the hallway so they are very prominent, I'm trying to get them to blend into the background more

There are several ways to visually widen a narrow hall and shorten a long hall. Floor: To widen a narrow hall use a diagonal floor treatment, e.g. stencil large diamond pattern on floor. To shorten the hall, use two or three runners to break up the length of floor rather than one long runner. Walls: Long walls can appear shorter by breaking up the horizontal lines.. This can be done by arranging pictures in groups rather than distributing them along the length of the wall. Hang a large painting, print or tapestry on the end wall or paint your door an accent color to create a feature. Another way to shorten a wall is create vertical sections on the wall. Trim can be used to create panels, groupings of art can create sections or large objects such as a mirror can define the segments. Directed lighting illuminating these section will also de-emphasize the length of walls. Ceiling: Minimize the visual impact of a long hall by bringing attention to the ceiling. One approach is to align the panel wall sections with ceiling panels or coffers. Or hang interesting pendant lights or a bold chandelier to redirect visual interest away from the walls.

Thanks Judy. I know oak doors and skirting boards will still have to be cleaned but I think there is a bit of leeway with dusting them - dust doesn't show quite so quickly! My windows havnt been finalised yet at all so I have plenty time, i just don't want to feel like im in a timber showroom with oak window frames, skirting, doors and floors when in my living room plus when standing in the hallway there will be the stairs (paint and oak steps), banisters, handrails, and the skirting and surrounds of four doorways. Any other way of getting around it? Must I have skirting boards??!

Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.

I find if they all are solid and white the hall looks very long like a hotel that is why we went with the checkered glass and coloured doors, have fun.
