Hello there,Can I get assistance or recommendation on how to design this place to be a good home for my family?

Congratulations! it looks like you've got a lot of space to play with and a good solid base to start from. But you really need a floor plan and how many are in the family for advice like that. Ultimately I'd recommend getting an actual interior designer to take a look at it, you don't need to get them to actually design it but a consultation with them will give you all the ideas you need for what 'could' be done and then you can go from there.

hello bonnielynn75 and THANK YOU! your comment put a smile on my face re the red on the interior side of the door. It IS red on the inside as well, he insisted on that when we purchased it. no one here has it red on the inside and I wanted it to be white on the inside. do you see my dilemma?;) I agree with everything you are saying, I suppose this is the reason why so far I was not 100% sure about the black for the door either, although I like black...Agree, there is too much wall and I find the house to be looking a bit 'bland' and would like to change that. I LOVE shutters, but read somewhere that you never put shutters on wide windows, so got unsure about that, too...but perhaps just the one as I stated earlier. Would the color on that shutter be the same as the door (if I ever settle on a door color)? Unfortunately window boxes are not an option as we have quite a few cats and they may be used as litter boxes;) please don't tell me to get rid of the cats;)... Regarding the stoop (entrance) : we need to add another step (made of cement) on top of the existing step: it was removed when the new door was fitted. We were thinking of putting slate tiles or something dark to match the roof, if that makes any sense.... It is porous cement so unsuitable for painting, I think. What place in Ireland did you visit, we are close to the Irish Sea in the country surrounded by sheep;)...

Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.

Hello nicnoll, Another idea could be to have a wall light that is all about the bulb! A few links to both ideas.... Copper is good too... One other idea... have a rose with multi flex wires... centralised where the current one is.. Then choosing cable/flex and lengths.. run them along to where you want.. either along ceiling.. in loops with hooks to loop round and fix position, so then excess becomes a drop pendant to add something lovely.... Or you run them in loops across the ceiling to the opposite wall and have a wall light fitting but the electric cable comes from the one ceiling point. So less to do wiring wise.. Hi. I do agree with all of what Apple pie said. If the chest of drawers or bed can't go elsewhere at minimum I'd remove the unit above and add a table lamp and vase of good faux flowers o the chest. If budget permits, move the air vent literally down a few feet where it is so it's not prominent, if not create a collage of art or decorative mirrors over that ŵall so it's less visible. The room appears quite dark (although that may be the pic!), so I'd paint the walls in savage ground by farrow and ball ( do get fabric samples first though as there are more paint colours available!). In future I would probably change the carpet (although it's nice) to a pale neutral as it's probably sucking the light. Maybe also paint the door as that looks quite dark. Using the pic posted from your Idea book I'd use that as inspiration using cream, pale bronze, antique gold etc. it's hard to tell if full length curtains will hang properly next to the wardrobe, if not, go for Roman blinds in a cream/natural floral, damask, bird toile etc. it's easy to mix any of these patterns with other florals etc for the bed. Ideally I'd hang the blind outside of the recess so as not to block light but I can't see if that would work. If you're on a budget do look at ebay for blinds or fabric, often designer guild cushions or some of the high street names will also come up. Personally I'd go for plain bed linen and add cushions and a throw mixing plain and patterns in different fabrics. I can't see what light you have but a chandelier would go well with this scheme, you could try bhs.
