Depends how heavy footed you are. My son always kicks my island end panels in the kitchen with his size 11s. I always end up having to wipe them when he leaves. If it’s just the risers and not the treads and you wear slippers I guess they shouldn’t get too many marks.

I think they look lovely. I also love it when moroccan style tiles are used on the risers like in Spain. So pretty.

Thank you both, we have oiled the threads and left the risers bare whilst deciding. @Sonia love the Moroccan tiles but not the extra wotk to get them done.

@Daisy we do have big feet in our house but we are barefooted or wearing socks. We also plan to use a scrubbable paint in case it gets scuffed.

I think they look really good. I suppose when they catch the eye they create a sense of perspective that looks interesting. You can always retouch and scub occasionally. Go for it.

How about an ombre effect going up the stairs, Same colour, just lighter tones as you go up stairs?

@colourhappy those were exactly my thoughts, hubby actually rung me this evening to say yes to painting. Yippee!! @T Gray If I suggested ombre it might just tip him over the edge 🤣🤣🤣 but I do like that perhaps in the very saturated hues of blue. hmn food for thought.

There you go @ED 😁 lots of little evils/botched bits were hidden under that striped carpet(whole misssing bits in the actual stair threads, split wood etc) which explained the movements and horrendous creaking.
