Design Dilemma Renovating Lighting

Downlight help needed

We have a large living dining area which we are renovating. We have no idea where to place the down lighters as it is so big. 7136mm by 3610mm. Normal 8foot ceiling height. We have tried all sorts of ways to mark it out but can’t agree on a finish. Can anybody help please.

When I had mine done the electrician suggested where to put them to avoid dark corners. It worked out well, so I’d get an electrician to call and quote and see what he/she recommends.

If you can't decide then why not just have a couple pendants and couple lamps? We don't ever use our overhead ceiling lights in our living room as we prefer softer lighting, and I don't have any spotlights/downlights apart from in the bathroom

Hi we need major curb appeal help! We are able to change the siding, we can paint and change the eaves or gutters, the windows have to stay in place but we can change the style or add grills etc... The roof stays (Timberlane Shakewood color) and our door is going to be moved. We purchased a 6 lite craftsman door. It will go where there is an existing window and will face the driveway and street. We do a lot of gardening so we were thinking of a cottage or bungalow look. We like the look of cedar shake siding and we also think a pergola in the front would help break up the space but would love any drawings or advice to help us visualize a changed look.

Hello. I see you posted in December, but if you haven't already re-arranged: 1. I agree wholeheartedly about the roman blinds. (Nifty idea to reuse the great fabric of the curtains. I didn't think of that one ) 2. I'd move the armchair to the left of the fireplace where the lovely vase is. Vase under bay window instead maybe? 3. Put the TV on the wall below the framed photos: 90 cm above floor level is a comfortable height for seated viewing. 4. Then the sofa can go on the opposite wall, it's more welcoming when you walk in the door from the hallway. (To the left of the bay window) As for small L-shaped sofas, the smallest I've seen is a sofa bed from IKEA. Very tidy but I've not tested it for comfort. Has integrated storage for bed covers. Neat. 5. Then turn your rug and coffee table 90 degrees, parallel with the fireplace wall and in line with the bay. (Turning the long axis of these items across the width of the room will make it appear wider, especially where you already have the extra width of the bay.) Without dimensions of these items and the room I can't be sure will that fit. But if you're not already sorted I guess it's worth a try.

I think something like these tiles from Tile Style (http://tilestyle.ie/all-tiles/tiles/alchimia.html) could look really fresh or perhaps the herringbone tiles? Not sure where you can source these though but I love them. Good Luck!

Add 6 spotlights that tilt and have them on dimmers so you can adjust the lighting mood, they should be squared off nicely so your sparky needs to get his laser for accuracy
