Tv on Chimney wall

Q: how do you safely hang a TV On to a chimney wall with a log burner beneath? How does the heat affect the TV? We have our electrician about to chase wires into the chimney before we plaster but want reassurance it is ok?
Would a mantle piece help to break the heat rising ?

Hi Emmie, My only tip would be to attach your custom-build structure to the wall, one way or the other, to avoid... tip-ping :) If I can picture what you intend to do correctly, you will need to anchor it to the wall. It doesn't involve structural changes necessarily, just a few screws into the wall studs. Other than that, make sure you use the right materials / thickness to support what you intend to display (ie, the shelf for the TV should be thicker than a shelf used for just 1 or 2 picture frames). I'd advise against it as the wall above stoves gets really quite hot - to the extent that in our last house we actually took the picture down from above the fireplace as my husband was worried about the effect of the heat on the print. You'll also get a small amount of smoke escaping the stove when you open the door to add logs, and that will go straight upwards too and there won't be any mantle to intercept it. So I doubt any sort of electronics will be happy there.

Hi. I think a Chesterfield would be nice, you can find some small ones c5ft or so which will allow for a narrow lamp table or trunk. I'd go for a ŵall to wall bookcase behind the sofa with a couple of ŵall lights affixed. I don't know what styles you like but perhaps french doors painted in a dark grey to give a crittall look. Does the tv fit in the alcove if you were to add shelves and then add art over the fire with a large mirror on the ŵall facing you? I would keep colours light (is the kitchen grey?) and although it would fill the space a little I might add a narrow upholstered footstool which you can use as extra seating and/or add a tray on one half which you can accessorise

Hello, We are looking for some advice on how to finish this wall in our small living room. The chimney breast wall only comes out 13cm so our first idea of console tables won't work. We are therefore thinking of getting a built in unit that will be about 35cm high - to the socket which will extend the length of the 3 walls, this has been done in other houses in our estate. We are thinking of a nice wood veneer and painting it? Would we possibly paint the chimney breast wall the same colour or the two other walls and leave the middle one plain? All ideas and suggestions are greatly welcomed! thanks! First two pictures are our living room currently, and third picture is an idea of the unit.
