We are hoping to put our TV over a stove/fireplace. We were looking to get a stove that fits into the chimney breast with no mantle surround. Has anyone done this? Any advice appreciated.
I'd advise against it as the wall above stoves gets really quite hot - to the extent that in our last house we actually took the picture down from above the fireplace as my husband was worried about the effect of the heat on the print. You'll also get a small amount of smoke escaping the stove when you open the door to add logs, and that will go straight upwards too and there won't be any mantle to intercept it. So I doubt any sort of electronics will be happy there.
Check with the manufacturers of the TV first. Some TV's are tested to go above fires. It also depends on the positioning of the stove. If the stove in inset which I think you are referring to (see attached) it is unlikely that it would be a good idea. If the stove is going into a traditional opening a TV above it at the right distance should be fine.
It gets v v v hot - even with an inset stove and we wanted to have it over the fire as well but was strongly advised against it. It will likely melt or ruin the screen.
Shame as its perfect above the fire but better safe than sorry,
