White-out or pops of colour?
Comments (6)I think a few options. You can either layer whites or choose a neutral in different shades of the same colour or a few coordinating neutrals then use throughout the house, sometimes on all the walls, some for a feature wall etc. then you can either add the same pop of colour throughout or choose a few that coordinate. If you have an open plan room, maybe one end go for a wall in x colour and the other have a chair in a coordinating colour and tie it together with a cushion in x colour. I'd keep woodwork the same colour. Colour can just be in the accessories or furniture rather than on the wall too. It is your home so the interior should reflect you, if you do go predominantly white with a few colour feature walls they can be easily be painted when sold. This may be a little extreme but you could also pick just 3 colours. I love navy, white and hot pink at the moment and you can give rooms different looks. Comments (5)Hi, I love Victorian houses especially ones with original features. Is there also a fireplace in the lounge? I don't necessarily think you need exactly the same on both rooms. I this if the flooring is the same then you can create two different moods. Like you say if one get more light and has a large bay window then you will automatically get a very different feel. I would say that out of the colours you mentioned I would be more inclined to go with the grey tones in the front room. These would tie in tonally with the navy in the dining room. I would also follow the same theme with woodwork and mouldings etc. Perhaps you could be brave and introduce a bright accent colour in the front room like a lovely bright yellow/mustard colour. This would add the warmth and work with the brighter aspect. You could include it on larger spaces such as a rug, cushions and blinds etc Hope this helps. Comments (1)A medium color floor is easier to keep looking clean than a dark or light floor. For an open floor plan, I would choose planks. One of the main features in the design of an open floor plan is to draw the eye through the space. A herringbone pattern would be confusing to the eye. Use herringbone in a small room....See MoreNeed help picking paint color for new wall unit
Comments (0)I’ve been struggling to pick a color for weeks and I need to make a decision soon so hoping you can advise! I’m getting a new full wall tv unit built into my sitting room to replace an old ikea tv unit there presently, it will have presses at the bottom, space in the middle for wall mounting a tv, and shelves all around. It will come up to the ceiling and will have spotlights at the top. (sketch attached) I need to pick a color from the Farrow and Ball catalog. I’m trying to find a color that works well with what I have already. There is no other furniture in the room yet other than a couch as this is a new house and we only just moved in a couple of months ago, so I’m trying to match it to the walls, floors and the couch! I’ve attached some pictures. Our walls are supposedly Elephant Breath (but the builders used a cheaper alternative I believe). I have some purple in the room (sofa cushions and a rug). There is a large bay window on one side of the room and opposite to it a glass double door into the kitchen area. All doors, skirting boards, and coving are white. I really don’t want to pick white and would like a bit of contrast, but not sure if I should go lighter or darker than the wall. Any help really appreciated! Thanks in advance!...See MoreGil
