Heavy wood garage door

Any ideas on how to fix my garage door. It bows at the bottom so the corners don't go all the way down. Would like to keep the critters out.

Time for a new door and springs. Do it before there's any possibility of your kids getting hurt if the mechanism or springs fail.

Gotta agree with Beverly. Keeping animals out is the least scary of many possible scenarios. I've seen springs snap and go flying. Can you imagine what kind of damage or injury that might do? And I've seen other terrifying mishaps with garage doors, all caused by lack of maintenance. You don't want to mess with this. Get a pro in to advise you a sap.

What about 6 massive pots? Two one either side of the bay windows and one on either side of the front door. (I too have a massive gray gravel drive way. Trying to plant through the gravel brings on a whole other set of challenges. Pots are just more practical, for me anyway.) I love those trees in the lawn area.:) And the green trim. Also, how would that bright area around the front door look painted a shade a bit closer to the color of the brick and stone areas?

Take out sofa, use beanbags and those blow up seats for their friends. Coloured rugs for tumbling and crawling on. Supersoft teddy bear blankets so they can curl up. Add in one of those soft blanket boxes for toy storage and so you have somewhere soft to perch when you are with them. Paper half way up the wall in the wall paper that kids can draw on, so they can decorate in whatever colour they like and you won't mind. A childs lift up desk, bookcase and some crazy lamps in weird colours. Then close the door, collapse on the sofa that you have moved, breathe a sigh of relief and thank your lucky stars that you have another room for the kids to go to. (Grab wine and pretend they aren't yours for half an hour! ;-) )

Gosh, I've returned after a week travelling for work to loads more suggestions - thanks all! To respond specifically: - the house faces south so gets the lovely morning (and in the uk, sometimes the only) sun. - the husband has avoided putting plants in the planters due to maintenance and they're generally twee so comments here have confirmed to me that they will be coming out - love the idea of wooden boxes with the spiky plants and grasses - also like the concept of taking out the grass/bed/tree in front completely out and replacing with slabs - yes to lightening the windows - to the Barn company, I honestly don't mind the advice and I'd never seen sloping garage roofs. - nicking ideas from landscaping of new builds....great idea! - finally, Helen Scholes, I'm embarrassed about the spelling of kerb. Had no idea! Thanks again all.

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. It's hard to be sure from just a photo, but the door appears to have a perfectly straight bottom edge. Could the gaps be due to the concrete not being level and/or flat?

As far as safety goes, you should definitely inspect your door and its mechanisms thoroughly, and get a pro to do this if you are not handy. OTOH, other than needing paint, and your concern about bowing, I don't see any obvious issues. (I'd tiewrap those cords to protect them.)

your concrete has settled. i have been putting in garage doors for years, and can definitely say that the problem is settling concrete.
