Since you are keeping the flooring, everything new has to be in relation to the floor. Do you have a photo of the floor? Hold up samples of the cabinet paint and see if it enhances the flooring. You might need a more cream paint on cabinet and see these dark knobs. Some of the marble-type have many gray streaks. I'd look for something with brown-beige streaks to enhance the beige grout and beige floor tilehttps://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-traditional-bathroom-phvw-vp~93581 The back splash I'd do in the same "marble" as the counters b/c if you match the beige grout of the floors, with the subway tile, the back splash tile will look odd and if you use a white grout on the subway tile, it will look odd with the floors, too.

Thank you for your suggestions and ideas! I love some of the more daring/colourful ideas, but I don't think I'm, personally, bold enough to go with such a contemporary look. I'm going to stick to a traditional/modern style and use large (4" x 8") white subway tiles and dark grey grout. I'm thinking of using a dark grey paint around the kitchen walls and then a lighter shade around the rest of the room, with maybe the dark grey on the wall behind the TV too. Will be a few more weeks before that's all done, but I'll post a picture when I eventually get there. Thanks again!

The back splash is certainly taste specific. If you are going to remodel in the spring, I certainly wouldn't spend a lot though. I have never done this myself, but I am pretty sure you can paint the tiles. That would be a huge improvement. Here is a blog that addresses that project. I can not remember the name off hand but I do know it was a dark blue almost black color! It is a very beautiful island!
