Please help. Need to buy

I am doing a temporary fix on a 1970s house we bought until we renovate it properly in spring.

I am going with linoleum/vinyl floor covering as it is cheap. My options are cream tiles (similar to those pictured) or just plain cream without a tile effect (I found a pic of another ugly kitchen to illustrate what this might look like).

I have until the morning to confirm which one I am going with. Appreciate your opinion.

I vote for the cream tile one. So that picture is not your kitchen?

That is my kitchen. I tried to delete that comment (about the ugly kitchen) but don't know how to edit the post once it goes up. First time post here. Have a lot of work to so so expect I'll be on here looking for advice. Yes that's my kitchen. I hate it.

Seeing it as an almost whole, I do think now that I like the soft, patterned curtain for the room. It could become overly severe, and that would be enough to stop that happening. Second thought, you don't need a side table for the sectional, but you do need something there to hold a lamp -- silver or glass would probably be best. The stand could be very plain, a box shape, even, in the same finish as the wood you already have. I liked these from wayfair.com -- though I might change the shades on a couple of them. Not that they're bad. The last one is an alternative approach if you fancy a bit of colour a-poppin'.

Hello Shassad85, As Far as the description of the house interior. I can suggest checking out at Benjamin Moore Brand paint color: Soft Sand 2106-60 That's the paint color number. Other one You can check out is Portland Gray 2109-60, Hope this Helps

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

Do not waste any money whatsoever on temp fixes that are to last you less than 6 months. Spend the time doing the research necessary for a full gut remodel. Spring will be here before you know it.

The back splash is certainly taste specific. If you are going to remodel in the spring, I certainly wouldn't spend a lot though. I have never done this myself, but I am pretty sure you can paint the tiles. That would be a huge improvement. Here is a blog that addresses that project. Hers looks great.
