Hi ...Zaz I am not sure what went on here in Houzz .... While I have been away ..(sneezing coughing sweating) Whatever it was Move on from it !! as best you can ... Otherwise these things eat away at you ... And being on a downer that's not good for anyone ..........including you .... You have a Talent truly you do Lots see it ...... Even if you can't ....... Fads come and go. Pick what you love, not what is in style. Make your home yours. Take samples to your home of all the materials you think your may like, cover colors that you are not going to keep with some white paper and live with the samples for a few days. The lighting in your home and the other colors that you have in your kitchen and in the adjoining rooms will guide your selection. I have done this often and every time I walk into a room with samples I find myself drawn to one or another consistantly and the decision is made based on what feels good to me.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

A medium color floor is easier to keep looking clean than a dark or light floor. For an open floor plan, I would choose planks. One of the main features in the design of an open floor plan is to draw the eye through the space. A herringbone pattern would be confusing to the eye. Use herringbone in a small room.
