Open Plan Kitchen/Living Room
Comments (5)Thanks for your comments. I think we've decided on wooden flooring throughout the open plan space but it's just what we do in living area. We had wanted carpet to get that warm cosy affect. We are considering under floor heating but I understand that can be expensive. I know we can put a rug down although I'm not sure whether that will have the desired warm and cosy feel. The other option is to fit carpet in a rectangle or circle shape in the living area. Just not sure how that's going to look and how best to join it to the wood so that it looks good. I've not seen open areas with carpet and tiles/wooden flooring...it seems that usually flooring is the same throughout with a rug in the living area. Any suggestions? I attach a plan which shows what it will hopefully look like. The dining table will go near to the patio doors. The sofa will be in an L shape with the back to the kitchen on one side and the other back to the dining area on the other side. Any flooring ideas would be appreciated!...See MoreNeed help with my living room please.
Comments (25)Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it....See MoreCurtains for living room nook & large slider patio door in kitchen
Comments (2)I agree, blinds, they are large windows so that is a lot of material / expense if you go down the curtain route, plus curtains may block out light. We have sliding doors like yours and have chosen to keep them free of any covering, however we are not overlooked. You might also want to consider translucent / sheer roller blinds which offer moderate privacy yet still retain a degree of visibility. We have them on our front windows for privacy as we are in a single storey house / bungalow, people can't see in (during the day) but we can see out. We also have curtains with them in the sitting room as we wanted it to be more cosy / private at night. In the other rooms we have another blind that sits over the sheer blinds, but this wouldn't work for all windows....See Moreneed light in my living room
