Need help with main floor plan

Here is our main floor plan as it is now. The bedroom #5 and ensuite
need to stay the same as they are for our son with special needs.
Actually, the ensuite could be changed as long as it had the same
elements and enough floorspace to accommodate a wheelchair. It would
actually be preferable for the tub to be opposite the door as he will be
using a lift on a track to get him from the bedroom to the tub.

The
stairs also need to remain the same. The walk-in closet could be
modified if needed as he doesn't need a closet that big, it just worked
in the space. Other than that, we can change doors, windows, etc. We
need to have a powder room, kitchen, living room, dining room, and
laundry/mudroom. The rooms are where we want them, but I feel like it's
an awkward layout and doesn't flow nicely. We've been tossing around
ideas for awhile now and still not making much progress. Walls are
going up this week so we need to decide lol.

We'd like to
maximize kitchen workspace and cabinet space. We also need a fair bit
of kitchen storage for large items such as flour, sugar, appliances,
etc. We would love an island, even if it's on the small side. If
possible we'd like room for seating at the island.

The living room will have built in cabinets around the fireplace.

The dining room will have an 8 person table as well as either a buffet or built in cabinets.

In
the laundry room, we'd like the washer/dryer and sink with cabinets
above, as well as some kind of mudroom/bench area. We thought of maybe
putting the laundry in where the closet is now and then having the
mudroom in where the laundry currently is marked in.

I would LOVE
any ideas on how we should arrange things so everything works well
together. I like things symmetrical and tidy and it just seems like
everything is a bit off in the current layout.

Lol that is me :) I realized I really needed advice on the whole thing, not just the kitchen, but I couldn't seem to edit the title or text.

Hi catbox/emerald18 - your kitchen is absolutely stunning - I love it - mostly because your style is the same as mine - only the tiles I've chosen are Henley Cool from Topps Tiles (sage green/blue). I've also had a few moments of indecision but I've had a picture and sample of the tiles pinned up for months and I still love them. I'd chosen matt slab style kitchen door fronts but I might be convinced by your photo to change to Shaker. I am also going for the wood worktop but can't decide whether to have a Belfast sink or not. What sink did you choose? I also can't decide on a splashback, but like white painted brick + something more cleanable by the sink and hob. Once again, I love love love your kitchen - I'm pinning the photo of it up with my tiles picture in case I get future wobbles about my dream kitchen

Maybe if you stuck to one colour scheme such as white and purple or grey and lime green, colours that compliment each other. You could have a cabinet on the larger side with some family photos or a mirror above it and maybe a single colour on the top half of the wall and a complimentary wallpaper on the bottom half. You could go for wood on the floor or a simple soft carpet but it might get muddy. You could also have a bench with storage underneath for shoes and bags, but try get a colour that matched the walls. You could also paint the banisters if they don't match the rest of the room.

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on my house plan. For the upstairs I plan on taking the bath out of the main bathroom and putting it in my ensuite, also will put the wardrobes on both sides of the wall walking in. I have a large family so all the rooms are needed. I just sold out last home and this one has only 2 extra rooms, the office and the sun room so I know what we need. The playroom will turn into a den when the kids get older. The office will double as a spare room as we don't live near our families so they visit regularly. Iv went back to my architect and had multiple changes but I still feel its not right. If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated, thanks

Hi everyone, Love this page and how amazing ye all are to solve a design problem. We have an old cottage with extension. Cottage is the large room at front 4.5m x 6.3 and extension is everything beyond 6.3 x 7.5m. There will be 3 bedrooms and bathroom upstairs, 2 above original cottage. We have redone roofs and floors, exterior doors and windows over time, this is a lengthy project as the funds just aren't there to do it all in one go. My issue is the design, I am looking at it every day for almost 2 years and keep changing. There is a load bearing wall at the back between two rooms. Services really need to be at back as cottage is very thick stone walls and would be nightmare for these self builders. The original layout has kitchen in the middle and bedroom out back with bathroom. We need a bedroom downstairs as 3 upstairs and we need 4 as 5 of us, too big age gap between boys, 14 years. There is a cottage next door to the right hence lack of windows there. There is a steel beam, dotted line to make space bigger. Please help. Major changes might not be afforded as we might never get it. Thanks

I tried to delete the old one too so I could just start over, but no luck.

I would see if the pantry could be relocated to the "dead space" between the kitchen and family room. That would allow more counter space.

Then I would get rid of the peninsula between the kitchen and the living room. You could then locate an island (running front to back).
