I'd love to help answer this, but I'm in the USA and don't know what zone Ireland is in, what sort of soil you have, or how many hours of light on an average summer day various parts of your yard get. For a cottage garden look, you need some perennials and some annuals. You'll also want a rose trellis somewhere in the mix. While this may sound silly, what you might want to do is keep a camera or cell phone with you and take photos of local yards you admire during different seasons over the next year then have an experienced gardener help you identify the plants that you like in the photographs so you can get them in your yard. The reason to take photographs during different seasons is because different plants will be in bloom. The reason to take the photos locally is because you'll be better able to tell which plants grow well in your soil type and climate zone.

Hi there, We've recently refloored and painted our living room. I think it's very bland and want to introduce more colour, perhaps a deep teal on the fireplace wall or something. Im struggling with choosing units for the alcove. I hate the TV stand and was thinking of something built in, put the TV higher and mounted on the wall but I cant put one on the other side or I'll have nowhere for my Christmas tree or baby's chair, will it look odd with something on one side only? Any suggestions for wall hangings and rug or no rug! Thanks in advance!

I live in a Terraced house with a walled in enclosure. Small garden measuring 12ft x 14ft. Was thinking of red bricking it with shrubbery. My concern is there are very mature trees at the end of the site and I consider it sheltered. I have 3 steps up to the garden, is there a danger that the red brick tiles will get a film and make them slippy or will they fade. Hi all, Looking for a few ideas on what to plant in different areas of a small garden. The first photo shows the front, the bed near the window gets a lot of sun in both winter and summer. I did plant wild flower seeds here last September but it was a bit late so only have the below. As it gets the sun I would like to plant flowers that would attract bees........any ideas? Also looking to plant 2 or 3 plants down the side of the fence........what would be recommendations? The bed by the wall doesn't really any sun during the winter and a bit in the summer. Was thinking the tree as there and adding a cherry blossom in the middle or maybe a bit closer to the gate. Good idea? The second photo shows the back, the plan was/is to put decking over half the grass and plants in the bed. What would you recommend for this bed? It gets no sunshine in winter but gets a lot from end of April to start of Sept. The third one shows another bed at the back that again only gets sunshine in the summer. Again what would be the recommendation here? And finally looking for somewhere in Ireland I can buy all of the recommendations online?? Loads of questions for any budding landscaper!! :-)
