With the shape of the room and where you want to place the furniture there really isn’t a good place for a floor change. If you are dead set against wood flooring in the kitchen but like the look why not install wood look porcelain tiles. This might just be the answer you are looking for. They come in many different shades, colors and styles. Beautiful!

We have the wood look tile in our bathrooms, with under floor heat. I think they look nice and work great for the bathrooms. However, for your whole house you might want to think about the fact that they won't have the soft/warm feeling of real wood. They will sound like tile when people walk on them (loud footsteps when shoes are on), they are hard like tile, they are cold like tile (when the heat is off) and they will be echo-ey like tile.

Hall Makeover... Open up the area by removing an internal wall. Reinstate fire with a wood burner, panel walls and marble tile floor.

this is our downstairs bathroom tile. Would it be strange to use the exact same tile in the hall?
